Job summary
This
is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Clinical Psychologist with at least
four years post-doctoral experience in neuropsychiatry, neuropsychology and/or
services for older people. St Peters
Hospital is a 51-bedded hospital based in Langstone, Newport. It caters for people with organic conditions,
including dementia, Huntingtons disease, alcohol-related brain damage, and
acquired brain injury. The people we
support and treat often present with behavioural and psychological symptoms,
including behaviours that challenge. We are looking for an experienced,
innovative and values driven person to join our clinical team.
Main duties of the job
The successful
candidate will work with the existing service lead to deliver and develop psychological
input into St Peters Hospital. The service provides integrated care and
treatment for people with complex neuropsychiatric conditions, typically with
associated challenging behaviour. The
postholder will work alongside a comprehensive multidisciplinary team including
Senior Nurses, Medics, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and
Language Therapists, a Dietician, and a Music Therapist. The post is supported
by 3.0 WTE Assistant Psychologists and 1 WTE qualified clinical psychologist. You
will have a key role in informing and providing effective, evidence-based care
pathways within the service.

- To formulate plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a clients mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across in and out-patient settings.
- To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
- To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.

- We are particularly interested in hearing from people who meet BPS requirements for appointment to a consultant grade position but are also keen to hear from people who are looking for a developmental opportunity to progress in their careers, where additional support will be provided on the developmental pathway. There are opportunities to access specialist training in Neuropsychology. You may already hold approved clinician status. Applicants without such status can be supported and encouraged to work towards portfolio submission to support an application to register as an approved clinician if that is an area of development interest.
