Job summary

St Peters Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a band 7 Speech and Language Therapist who has clinical experience of working with the older person in complex dementias and neurological conditions.

St Peters provides integrated care and treatment for people with dementia and other degenerative conditions and associated challenging behaviour. The postholder will work alongside a comprehensive multidisciplinary team including senior nurses, Consultant Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians and Psychology.

Main duties of the job

The post is supported by a Band 5 Speech and Language and an assistant speech and language . You will be part of a small and supportive speech and language therapy team across the larger organisation, which in turn is part of a larger clinical services directorate of AHP and Psychology clinicians.

This could include funded training to develop dysphagia or other neuro-rehabilitation competencies that fit the interests and career aspirations of our SALT therapists.

Job responsibilities

  • Specialist/ complex case load which could include – Dysphagia management and training.
  • To provide assessments, diagnostic and appropriate advice for all LSHG Service users those are referred.
  • To help plan and monitor individual and group treatment as appropriate.
  • To be part of LSHG multi disciplinary team, liaising, co-ordinating and planning work with other professionals in specific units.
  • To encourage good liaison with other agencies promoting positive good practice.
  • To contribute advice to families as necessary.
  • To attend MDT’s, staff meetings, CPD’s and in-service training as required.
  • To follow current administrative and statistical procedures as required by LSHG.
  • To keep clinical notes as per professional guidance and standards and to present information to MDT’s.
  • To keep up to date with new techniques and research for the maintenance and promotion of good practice and to record same on the Professional Log of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • To be conversant with communicating quality guidelines and ensure agreed care standards are adhered to.
  • To ensure statistical information and client records are updated
  • To participate in quality assurance and clinical audits as necessary
