Key
Responsibilities
Clinical
The delivery of a comprehensive LARC
delivery service
Follow service guidelines on
confidentiality; adhere to the law regarding sexual health advice to those
under sixteen years; Follow organisational policy and good practice assessment
regarding safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults following appropriate
SPCL and Safeguarding Board policies.
Provide a comprehensive discussion in
the event of an unplanned pregnancy and refer to appropriate agencies as necessary.
Deliver care to patients pertaining to
their sexual health needs in line with current BASHH/FSRH guidance.
Assess, advise, prescribe, administer,
and carry out the full range of LARC procedures required by patients, following
discussion with the individual as to their contraception choices, in line with
FSRH current guidance.
Comply with FSRH requirements on
updating professional practice and reaccreditation e.g., for LOC
Carry out competent clinical examination
of patients, including cervical and bimanual examination. Be able to diagnose
and clinically manage presentations of sexually transmitted infections and
related conditions, and referral in to Level 3 Sexual Health Services providing
patients with appropriate advice. Recognise complex issues relating to
patients sexual health needs and seek appropriate advice where necessary.
Ensure knowledge of sexual health, in
particular contraception is up to date and follow National recommendations and
guidelines for their management. Understand HIV and its impact on sexual health
care and contraception choices
Fulfil the requirements of annual
appraisal and revalidation as required by SPCL and the NMC.
Attend in-service training, courses,
study days and staff meetings as required and keep up to date with current
trends and procedures. Keep up to date withSPCLs mandatory training requirements
Maintain accurate contemporaneous
electronic patient records, in line with local and national information
governance policy/legislation
Interpret results accurately and discuss
with patients and associated healthcare professionals (HCP) as required. This
may include providing advice to HCP outside the service. Manage results in a
timely manner, in accordance with local clinic policy.
Participate in teaching student doctors,
nurses and other learners visiting the hub sites as appropriate
Always communicate with users of the
service in a sensitive, non-judgmental and supportive manner. Subject matter
may be complex and emotive, which may involve breaking bad news
Engagement with contract management and
achievement of the service KPIs
Ensure that the requirements to maintain
Non-Medical Prescribing registration are maintained if appropriate
Report incidents/complaints according to
SPCLs policy
The post holder will be expected to
maintain their own professional clinical standards and CPD for revalidation as
set out by the NMC.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
Analyse and interpret physical signs and
presenting symptoms in relation to investigative findings to support a pathway
of care for the client
Analyse and interpret results and discuss
findings with the client offering information, support and referral where
necessary
Analysis of clinical records to identify
any issues of concern to senior clinical team orprovide treatment within scope of practice/competence.
Personal planning and organisational

organisation policies, service procedures and guidelines according to
competency and provide feedback on issues of concern to line manager

services and be able to plan work and implement care pathways as delegated by
to clinical team
Physical skills
Minimal physical effort is required.
Role will involve insertion and removal of LARCs

There is a moderate requirement to
concentrate for sustained periods of time.

To respond effectively to intermittent
situations which can be highly emotive, distressing and unpredictable.
Freedom to act
This is an independent practitioner
post.
The patient contact is generally on a one-to-one
basis, with those patients whose birth gender is female.
Responsibility research and
development
To participate in research projects
associated with the service initiate improvements in the service.
To contribute to the development of
policies and procedures particularly within the service of Sexual Health,
identifying areas for improvement.
To keep updated with current, new, and
emerging trends relevant to effective development of sexual health services.
To be proactive in quality assurance
initiatives.
Actively participate in Clinical
Governance to ensure continuous quality improvement, including clinical audit, education,
and updates
Responsibility information resources
Provide patients with information
regarding their attendance in appropriate format.
Signpost patients to high quality
legitimate sources of information.
Provide health education and ensure
patient involvement in decision making.
Formally document care given in line
with the organisations policies and procedure
and maintain accurate patient records.
Maintenance of confidentiality of
patient attendance and records, ensuring
compliance with local and organisation policy, and UK Law (GDPR).
Responsibility finance and physical
Contribute to the effective and
economical use of resources and safe use of
equipment. Ensure maintenance of
adequate stock levels.
Contribute to cost efficiencies within
the service.

Confidentiality
The postholders will be in possession of personal
details of staff and clients and other confidential information. This must not be discussed or divulged to any
unauthorised person. Any such instance
would result in dismissal.
Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
This post is subject to an exception order under the
provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. This stipulates that all previous
convictions, including those that are spent must be declared. Previous convictions will not necessarily
preclude an individual from employment within the Organisation but must be
declared in writing at the appropriate stage during the recruitment process.
No Smoking Policy
SPCL operates a no smoking policy within all its
premises and their grounds.
Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults
All SPCL employees
are required to act in such a way that always safeguards the health and
wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults.
Familiarisation with and adherence to SPCL Safeguarding policies is an essential requirement of all
employees as is participation in related mandatory / statutory training.
Regular Participation in Clinical Supervision
SPCL operates a Clinical Supervision Policy which all
practitioners must engage with.
