The GP Care Group is a not-for-profit CIC and aims to provide innovative high quality, responsive and accessible health services. As national leaders in new models of care we provide universal 0-19 services (health visiting and school nursing) as well as a Family Nurse Partnership. We deliver services in the London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

School Nurses are the leaders of the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme offering a four level service model with community, universal, targeted and specialist services to families. You will add value at every contact with a young person and or family, addressing the main public health needs of the Borough working closely with the local authority, GP Practices and other partners to improve outcomes for our children and young people.

You will be part of a drive to provide innovative, high quality, responsive and accessible health services to offer families access to integrated care including health, social care and voluntary community services.

School Nurses are the leaders of the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme offering a four level service model with community, universal, targeted and specialist services to families.

You will need to be a qualified and registered nurse or midwife. You will study at post graduate level for 52 weeks with a balance of half time in practice and half with the university.

You will be paid at AFC Band 5 for the year.

Main duties of the job

School nurse are the leaders of the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme for 5-19 offering a four-level service model with community, universal, targeted and specialist services to families.

You will add value at every contact with a young person and/or family, addressing the main public health needs of the Borough working closely with the local authority, GP Practices, and other partners to improve outcomes for our children and young people.

Successful applicants for Tower Hamlets will study at Greenwich University from January 2025

Aim of the role

To provide the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) with a learning environment which will enable the student to develop knowledge, skills, and competencies to take on the role of a qualified SCPHN within a defined pathway. To gain the knowledge and skills and competence required in order to exercise higher levels of judgment, discretion and decision making in clinical care focusing on four broad areas:

  • Clinical practice
  • Community Engagement
  • Clinical practice development
  • Leadership in clinical practice

The post of the SCPHN Sponsorship Student is a development post building on existing knowledge, skills, and competencies to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification as well as a recordable/registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

The SCPHN course is studied at Level 7 for Post-Graduate Diploma. Applicants will have a second class or above (2:2 classification) honours degree in a relevant subject from an approved higher education institution. Clinically experienced, health professionals without a degree who have evidence of masters level CPPD (level 7) study undertaken within the last five years will also be considered.

The applicant must be registered with the NMC for a minimum period of 1 year prior to application.
