Would you like to train as a School Nursing in Tower Hamlets?

These are exciting times where you will be part of a drive to provide innovative, high quality, responsive and accessible health services working together to offer families access to integrated care including health, social care and voluntary community services.

You will need to be a qualified and registered nurse or midwife. You will study at post graduate level for 52 weeks with a balance of half time in practice and half with the university.

To be considered for this post, you will need to demonstrate in no more than 150 words each, how you meet each of our six Care Group values which are set out in the job description in your supporting statement. Please clearly indicate in your application your preference of placement either in Tower Hamlets.

Successful applicants for Tower Hamlets will study at City University of London from September 2024;

Please note our interview process is held in two stages. Shortlisted candidates will have to attend in person for a literacy and numeracy test first on 23/05/2024. Only on successful completion of these tests will you be progressed to interview, which will be held during the following week.

Main duties of the job

School Nurses are the leaders of the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme offering a four-level service model with community, universal, targeted and specialist services to families.

You will add value at every contact with a young person and/or family, addressing the main public health needs of the Borough working closely with the local authority, GP Practices, and other partners to improve outcomes for our children and young people.

Aim of the role

To provide the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) with a learning environment which will enable the student to develop knowledge, skills, and competencies to take on the role of a qualified SCPHN within a defined pathway.

To gain the knowledge and skills and competence required in order to exercise higher levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care focusing on four broad areas:

  • Clinical practice
  • Community Engagement
  • Clinical practice development
  • Leadership in clinical practice

The post of the SCPHN Sponsorship Student is a development post building on existing knowledge, skills, and competencies to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification as well as a recordable/registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

The SCPHN course is studied at Level 7 for Post-Graduate Diploma. Applicants will have a second class or above (2:2 classification) honours degree in a relevant subject from an approved higher education institution. Clinically experienced, health professionals without a degree who have evidence of masters level CPPD (level 7) study undertaken within the last five years will also be considered.

The applicant must be registered with the NMC for a minimum period of 1 year prior to application.

Within 0-19 services including, Health Visitors, School Nurses, FNP nurses, Community staff nurses and community nursery nurses, BFI Infant Feeding Coordinator, admin colleagues, GP practices, UTC staff, Safeguarding team and Domestic Violence Coordinators. Other THGPCG Colleagues such as Advocacy and Interpreting staff, CEPN team, Comms and IT colleagues for EMIS and data collection.

External Colleagues:

Midwifery colleagues, Acute and Secondary care colleagues at the RLH and Barts nursing and medical staff, Integrated Therapists and Community Paediatricians, Early Years and Childrens centres staff, Education and Schools colleagues.
