Waltham Forest for our Infant Feeding Lead.
The
post holder will work with universal 0-19 services and community partners to
lead the implementation and maintenance of the UNICEF Baby Friendly
Initiative
within the Health Visiting Service and the Community in Waltham Forest.
The
post holder will be responsible for ensuring that processes are developed to
improve both breastfeeding initiation and duration rates in the local
population and enable Waltham Forest 0-19 Service to achieve national,
regional, and local breastfeeding targets for its population. will take a
proactive lead in working with staff within the service to ensure all our
mothers, children and family have up to date knowledge and skills to improve
healthy choices.

Main duties of the job
- To lead the
implementation of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) within Health Visiting and the Community,
including training, clinical audit and other governance programmes in relation to
activities.

Responsible
for day to day project management of BFI, meeting of agreed outcomes, in conjunction with the leads,
recruitment and delivery of required training and support.
Clinical

Demonstrate a
commitment to best practice in breastfeeding and infant feeding.

Lead and
coordinate the implementation and accreditation of Baby Friendly Initiative Standards
(BFI) across the Health Visiting service and the community ensuring support and advice are targeted and that
best practice and training opportunities are shared across agencies.

Act as a
source of expertise for breastfeeding knowledge and practice, for health professionals, individuals,
community groups and key stakeholders to enable them to support and sustain mothers to
breastfeed.

Lead the
process of embedding breastfeeding and the UNICEF BFI standards within Health Visiting and the community.
- Support partners in the planning, development and evaluation of infant feeding groups, such as complimentary feeding groups, Baby Cafés or groups within Child Health.
- Lead in the collection of information and outcome data as per contractual requirements.

Training and education
- The post holder is responsible for training and assessment of the Baby Friendly Standards of all staff in the Health Visiting Service, Family Nurse Partnership, Tower Hamlets Infant Feeding Service, with support given to the new Tower Hamlets Family Hubs.
- To attend training and thereafter maintain skills, in order to be able to deliver UNICEF baby Friendly breastfeeding management courses.
- To identify, assess, plan, deliver and evaluate the UNICEF Infant Feeding and Relationship building training to all eligible staff working in 0-19 Integrated Services, Tower Hamlets Infant Feeding Service and the new Tower Hamlets Family Hubs, to enable compliance with UNICEF standards and enable delivery of evidence-based practice.
- To participate in induction, training, supervision and support of students, newly qualified professionals and new staff to Tower Hamlets GP Care Group.
- The post holder will act as a champion to develop the skills of the workforce through positive leadership on infant feeding and links to child healthy weight.
- To develop a plan of updates for all existing eligible staff to ensure that staff retain the skills necessary to maintain the BFI standards.
- Work with the Child Healthy Weight Service Lead to establish a cohort of skill-mixed infant feeding champions in the 0-19 service, to assist with activities including audits.
- Liaise with Tower Hamlets GP practices to assess their training needs and develop and deliver update training for them.
- Liaise with City University to deliver BFI training to the Health Visiting degree students.
- To maintain records of staff training.
- Ensure that a mechanism is in place for all new staff to receive orientation to the Infant feeding Policy immediately and full BFI training as soon as possible.

- Participate in the formulation of procedures, policies and protocols in respect of UNICEF guidelines and, with support, implement research-based practice changes.
- To use highly developed negotiation, facilitation, delegation and communication skills to engage, develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders including commissioners, health and local authority children services leads and the community partners.
- Work with the Child Healthy Weight Service Lead to develop a strategic action plan which would lead towards the maintenance of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Stage 3 Award and achievement of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Gold Award.
- To represent THGPCG at local, regional and national breast or infant feeding management meetings and forums.
