Job summary

The post holder will work as part of the GP Care Group Safeguarding Team, supporting the Named Nurse to ensure that there is effective safeguarding service within GP Care Group in line with requirements set out in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), the London Safeguarding Children Procedures (2023) and the London Multi-Agency Safeguarding Policy & Procedures for Adults (2019). The post holder will provide safeguarding advice and support, safeguarding supervision and both single and inter-agency training. The post holder will work within the Tower Hamlets Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub [MASH] Team on a rotational basis to identify, collate and analyse health information from a range of NHS providers to support MASH risk assessments. The post holder will additionally represent Health services at strategy meetings or coordinate attendance by an appropriate health representative. The post holder will work with the Head of Safeguarding & Named Nurse for Safeguarding to support the development and implementation of relevant safeguarding related policies and procedures and develop and support the completion of safeguarding related audits. On occasion the advisor will be required to assist with completion of statutory reviews, within short time frames.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide safeguarding advice to staff that is evidence based and underpinned by current legislative and national guidance/multi-agency safeguarding pathways and processes.
  • To work within the co-located integrated Tower Hamlets MASH team, analysing health information to support MASH risk assessments and representing health services at strategy meetings.
  • To facilitate safeguarding training and supervision for staff.
  • To support the development and implementation of safeguarding practice across GP Care Group
  • To promote an awareness of the MASH process within GP Care Group and support staff to interface with it.

Job responsibilities

Supporting and developing clinical practice

  • To provide advice and support to staff in relation to concerns about children/adults safety and welfare.
  • To develop effective communication links and partnership working with multi-disciplinary/multi-agency practitioners to enhance the direct care of children and adults with care & support needs.
  • To ensure that all staff are familiar with the London Child Protection Procedures (2023) and What to do if you are worried a child is being abused (2015) and that this guidance is complied with once actual or potential safeguarding children concerns are identified.
  • To ensure all relevant staff are familiar with London Multi-agency Safeguarding Adults Policy & Procedures (2019).
  • Provide support to staff involved in the child protection process through preparing for and attending safeguarding related meetings e.g. Team Around the Child/Family Meetings, Strategy Meetings, Child In Need Meetings and Child protection Case Conferences.
  • Attend relevant partnership meetings and ensure appropriate information sharing with relevant staff both within and outside of the organisation.
  • Support staff in the preparation of written reports both in relation to formal child protection procedures and for legal proceedings.
  • To work with the Named Nurse for Safeguarding to implement appropriate quality assurance systems including audit and monitoring of professional standards.
  • To ensure record keeping is maintained in accordance with record keeping standards.
  • Participate, under the direction of the Named Nurse, in case reviews and serious incident (SI) investigations.

  • To identify and collate relevant health information to inform multi-agency MASH risk assessments or strategy meetings. This may involve disclosing relevant information regarding parents or carers, ensuring that the information is processed fairly and proportionately.
  • To support the development of wider information sharing across the Health Economy.
  • Explain clearly, and with sound rationale, highly complex safeguarding children information to a wide range of professionals.
  • Participate in the MASH multi-agency risk assessment to inform the case management, advising where necessary and challenging decisions when appropriate.
  • Disseminate and communicate decisions and appropriate health information to relevant health professionals.
  • Identify service gaps and issues relating to effective clinical pathways and /or cross boundary arrangements. Escalate evidence of ineffective safeguarding arrangements within or outside of the MASH.
  • Record appropriate information about health outcomes on the appropriate MASH recording system on a case by case basis.
  • Assist in the evaluation and analysis of the health contribution to the MASH process.
  • Contribute to performance improvement of the MASH taking the health lead and for identified areas where agreed by the team.

Education, Training and Development
