Aim of the role
- The role of the Covid/Flu vaccine immunisation facilitator is to contribute to the improvement in uptake to meet the national targets for the vaccination programmes in Northeast London.
- The post holder will contribute to developing systems immunisation services at a local level aiming to eradicate vaccine preventable disease from North East London.
- The post holder will work as a valued member of the place based team supporting the Covid and flu vaccination programmes in line with national requirements.
- The role supports the delivery of best practice, addressing inequalities and supporting value for money in service delivery.
Key working relationships
- The post holder will be required to maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Participate in relevant working groups/projects, services and initiatives to provide, information and analytical advice and expertise.
- Develop and implement data collection systems that will provide accurate and timely data.
- Present information and issues, explaining highly complex issues, to a wide range of stakeholders.
Key result areas
The Covid/Flu Immunisation facilitator will be based in Local GP Federations within North East London ICB. The Covid/Flu Immunisation facilitator will provide local support to general practices and other providers of Covid and Flu vaccinations, to improve immunisation uptake.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Work to embed the COVID-19 and flu vaccine programme into practices.
- Work with place-based teams to support with housebound and care home vaccination planning and delivery.
- Working with practices on their call/recall processes, developing new approaches to encouraging vaccine uptake.
- Provide training and guidance on GP clinical systems.
- Support GP Practices and Community Pharmacies with coding to improve consistency of recording vaccinations, identifying unvaccinated residents for targeted work.
- Work with system leaders on ensuring best practice guidance is followed and implemented in practices to improve uptake and reduce variation.
- Liaise with key stakeholders within the place-based teams such as LA, local communities to reduce local variation and local inequalities.
- Support local plans to increase awareness and access to vaccinations for inclusion groups.
- Working with providers to organise and deliver Making Every Contact Count events.
- Work with GP practices and Community Pharmacies to develop and implement a whole systems approach to immunisations and vaccinations.
- Review, analyse and present complex information in a range of formats.
- Provide feedback to practices and ICB about issues and concerns around immunisations and vaccinations.
Sourcing guidance and training.
- Attend appropriate local strategic meetings to inform and support implementation of immunisation strategies.
- Provide regular updates to the NEL Immunisation Lead and NEL Immunisation team.
- Increase capacity within local communities to promote COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations through provision of training and support to vaccine champions, community and faith groups and voluntary sector organisations.
- Support with the development of case studies and innovative projects across the borough aimed at increasing vaccination uptake, which can be shared for wider learning across the ICS and NHSE.
Key Functional Responsibilities
Project Management
- Contribute to performance management and review, working closely with the commissioning manager to ensure provider organisations are delivering high quality immunisation services that meet the requirements of the contract.
- Lead the coordination of relevant working groups and provide project management advice, expertise and support to other team members where requested.
- Deliver relevant and timely specialist commissioning advice and guidance on own portfolio.
- Work with members of the Team to investigate the causes of any variance from plan and proactively contribute to the implementation of solutions.
Financial and Physical Resources

- Support teams on the targeting of resources, monitoring, implementing, evaluating and delivery of plans by providing sophisticated, high quality information and analysis.

People Management
- Provide advice and support on own role/responsibilities where necessary support training and induction of new staff.

- Devise and provide improvements to current management information, analysing, reporting and suggesting procedures to enhance decision making processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate information analysis and reporting to management on agreed areas of work.
Research and Development
- Actively support and contribute to the development of key performance indicators for the successful assessment of performance.
- Test and review new concepts, models, and practices.
- Contribute to ensuring there are processes in place for spreading and sharing learning and outcomes.
Planning and Organisation
- Contribute to strategic planning.
- Support implementation of strategic modernisation/service improvement, public health, workforce or commissioning strategies and any associated action plans.
- Contribute to the development of performance and governance strategies and the development and implementation of improvement programmes.

Policy and Service Development
- Propose changes to own area, inform policy and make recommendations for other project delivery
- Contribute to the review and development of existing information management systems.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Key Activities for Immunisation Facilitator:
- Identify and work with local practices and local vaccination sites on data recording for vaccinations.
- Work on call/recall processes with local practices.
- Develop practice reports for monitoring of uptake rates of vaccination services and providing guidance on how to improve these.
- Improve competencies of practice staff on vaccination services and increase confidence levels.
- To attend professional network meetings in the area
- Develop and Implement healthcare professional initiatives that are required for the local area.
- Share good practices with extended stakeholders.
- Provide quarterly reports to Immunisation Performance and Quality Boards
Improving quality and outcomes
- To support practices with clinical and assurance audits
- To signpost to specialist public health advice where required.
- To provide coordination of and participate in relevant meetings, reporting attendance.
- To be responsible for a high standard of work supporting the delivery of projects on time, to quality standards and in a cost effective manner.
- To work collaboratively across the NEL matrix of stakeholders.
Enabling patient and public involvement
- To act as a champion for patients and their interests and involve the public and patients in the policy development and decision-making of NEL.
- To ensure all public and patient contact with the office is of the highest professional standard.
- To embed patient and public involvement within NEL ICB at all levels of decision making.
