Job summary

The opportunity has arisen for a HCA to join a successful Private dermatology clinic which also provides services to the NHS.

This role involves helping doctors and nurses in private and NHS dermatology clinics, making sure trolleys are stocked, chaperoning patients and general house keeping duties. You will be working with a large team at St Michael's Clinic in Shrewsbury - with shifts in Much Wenlock and Donnington occasionally and if travel is posisble. We are offering flexible shifts on a part time basis between 18-30 hours (Job Share considered).

NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Health Care is desirable.

The post will suit somebody who enjoys a busy clinic environment, can deliver a highly professional service, can be flexible to cover extra shifts, (including occasional evenings and weekends) and is happy working as part of a large team.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to provide support to all the clinical staff to ensure the smooth running of day to day consultation clinics and surgical procedures.

House keeping duties, such as doing laundry and ironing, are also part of the role.

We are looking for someone who can work as part of a team but also work on their own initiative when required.

You may sometimes be required to assist in the theatre.

Excellent communication skills and putting the patients care first will be essential.

Health Care Assistant

Job Purpose

  • To provide support to doctors and specialist nurses to ensure efficient and effective provision of the full range of dermatological and nursing services to the patient.
  • To prepare and ensure efficiency of clinic rooms, theatre and treatment equipment.
  • Maintain adequate clinical stock levels and general housekeeping duties.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Undertake all duties in line with training and instruction provided by doctors/nurses.
  • Assistance at clinics ensuring patient care by chaperoning and assisting patients to undress/dress.
  • To undertake housekeeping duties.
  • Conduct urine testing, weighing and blood pressure measurements as required.
  • Assist when required in minor surgical /theatre procedures.
  • Ensure smooth running of NHS clinic noting patient arrival and informing relevant clinician.
  • Input of information into clinic system as required e.g. Pathology Log.
  • To become fully conversant with EMIS, the clinic computer system.
  • Ensure adequate clean linen which involves washing, drying and ironing of used linen when on shift.
  • Ensure adequate clinical stock levels in stock room, consulting rooms and theatre.
  • Work according to clinic guidelines, protocols and procedures.
  • Assisting as required with Laser/Intense Pulse Light procedures.
  • Work well within the Multidisciplinary Team setting, demonstrating effective communication and information sharing.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is respected and all patient contacts are documented appropriately.

Infection Prevention and Control

  • The prevention and management of acquired infection is a key priority for St Michaels Clinic Limited. The post holder is required to ensure, as an employee, that his/her work methods are compliant with the Clinics agreed policies and procedures and do not endanger other people or themselves.
