Job summary

We are looking to recruit a consultant dermatologist at St Michaels Clinic in Shrewsbury to undertake NHS and private dermatology services.

The post holder will join a team of three consultants, seven specialty doctors and 2 GPSIs who provide a comprehensive dermatology service to the areas of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Powys. This is closely supported by a specialist nurse team who carry out a full range of treatments such as surgery, phototherapy, PDT and support the medical team with counselling and management of skin cancer patients and monitoring complex medical dermatology patients on second- and third-line therapies.

The remit of the post holder will be to work within the multi- disciplinary team providing and further developing care of dermatology patients. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.

We are happy to consider a full-time role in the clinic or sessions in addition to another role within an NHS Trust. We offer a unique opportunity of undertaking NHS and private work in the same location, with the same health care professionals and administrative staff.

We can provide flexible working and a great working environment - especially for new consultants or those coming to the end of their career.

The NHS role is salaried dependent on experience equivalent to NHS Consultant pay scales.

Main duties of the job

The aim of the post is to ensure continued provision of a comprehensive, high quality dermatology service and to lead on-going developments within the service to ensure all outpatient, surgical and cancer targets are met.

The post holder will support the continued development of excellent outpatient dermatological care and take a lead role for future service development opportunities. The successful candidate would be expected to develop and lead in their own area of interest and expertise.

The new appointee will be encouraged to provide postgraduate education to interested GP's. There is a regular postgraduate regional West Midlands meeting, departmental governance meeting and regional medical dermatology MDT meeting.
