Job summary

This role as an Assistant Psychologist at Thornford Park Hospital offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and experience in a forensic mental health setting. Main duties of the job

As an Assistant Psychologist, you will be responsible for contributing to psychological assessments and formulations, facilitating interventions for service users, assisting in the delivery of staff training and reflective practice, maintaining clinical databases, and undertaking service evaluation and research tasks. You will work as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals requiring medium and low secure forensic mental health services.

You will be working service users that require medium and low secure Forensic Mental Health Services. In addition to these services there is also a PICU Mental Health Service. 

As an Assistant Psychologist you will have the opportunity to assist with assessments, formulations, and treatment to our service users, under the supervision of the Senior Psychologist. You will also assist in clinically related administration including conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching, and project work.

As an Assistant Psychologist you will be:

  • Contributing to psychological assessments and formulations
  • Facilitating psychological interventions on a 1:1 and/or group basis to service users, monitoring and reporting upon their effectiveness
  • Assisting in designing and delivering specialist training to others
  • Assisting with the delivery of reflective practice for staff
  • Maintaining clinical databases
  • Completing outcome measures
  • Writing reports for various audiences
  • Service evaluation and other research tasks including collecting, analysing, and reporting upon an array of statistics
  • Undertaking clinically relevant audits

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of an upper second-class honours degree in Psychology conferring eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)
  • Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist in a forensic and/or mental health setting in a similar role
  • Experience of maintaining office systems and undertaking administration tasks
  • Creative thinking, clinical efficacy, and a strong commitment to working with evidenced based models of therapeutic intervention
  • Strong organisation skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • To meet professional practice expectations including the HCPC standards of conduct, performance and ethics, and the BPS code of ethics and conduct

Thornford Park Hospital is 142 bedded Forensic Mental Health Hospital. At Thornford Park Hospital, we provide comprehensive personalised assessment and treatment programmes for men with mental illness/complex care needs as well as those with personality disorder within our Medium & Low Secure services. Service users may have histories of offending and/or may have failed in previous placements.

Thornford Park Psychology team is one of the largest Psychology team among Forensic Mental health hospital with 8 Psychologist, team of Art therapist, Dram therapist and Speech and Language Therapist. The team is well supported by team of Assistant Psychologist. The team give you best experience of learning in Forensic mental health.
