Job summary
Working
as an Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) with OSR Medical Ambulance Service will
give you a sense of satisfaction that is found in very few other jobs. Every
day is different, yet rewarding, and you’ll be giving something back to the
community.
You
will be responding to 111, urgent care and PTS calls, working with a crewmate, in
Manchester from our York base. You will be assisting and treating a wide range
of patients, working on PTS and urgent care shifts. You could be chatting to an
elderly person who has fallen in their home who needs help to get up, supporting
someone in a mental health crisis or transferring a patient from one hospital
to another.
At
every call, people will put their trust in you and your skills. You will help
clinicians to make informed decisions on the treatment they need—and whether they
should be treated at home, go to hospital, or taken to a walk-in centre or
minor injuries unit.
We are looking for people with
excellent interpersonal skills, and who are empathetic and caring. To work as a
ACA with us, you can work with the clinical lead of an urgent care vehicle,
where both are responsible for assessment, care, treatment, and transport of
patients and their carers/relatives in emergency and non-emergency situations,
whilst adhering to the operational procedures and directives of OSR Medical
Ambulance Service and our NHS Trust clients.
Main duties of the job
· To provide a professional and caring service for all patients whilst in the care of OSR Medical.
· Use of the appropriate knowledge and skills to help a clinician make a professional judgement and to allow the ambulance crew to work as a team, to perform treatment in line with the Clinical Practice Guidelines at the appropriate level of training and competency.
· To work as part of a double crewed Ambulance to convey patients in and out of Hospitals, clinics, Health department and wards in a safe and comfortable manner.
· To respond to the patient transport requests and obey the directions and instructions as detailed by the relevant Trust you are operating on behalf of, or OSR Medical Management.
· To keep up to date with training and new learning from more experienced members of the clinical team, who will provide a supportive working environment.
· To apply appropriate skills and the use of equipment safely and within appropriate level of training, competency, and scope of practice.

Job description
Job responsibilities
Driving is an essential skill for
this role, so you will need a full C1 or C1 provisional category manual driving
licence at the point of application with no more than 6 penalty points, with at
least 12 months experience of driving ambulance sized vehicles. If a
provisional is held, the applicant must pass their C1 test before their start
date. You will also need to have or working towards a nationally recognised
blue light qualification.
We are looking for people who can
demonstrate our values of Customers, Staff and Standards in all that they do.
So, if you clearly demonstrate that you meet the essential criteria, then we
will invite you to an assessment day. This will include checks of your
application paperwork, an interview, and a driving assessment in a large,
manual, van-sized vehicle. We will need to see your driving licence before we
can take you out for the driving assessment and you must have provisional C1 to
undertake this assessment.
Please read the person
specification & job description carefully and make sure that all the
minimum requirements are clearly noted on your application form in the correct
place.
Interviews and assessment days
will be held at our York Station. You will be required to attend all
assessments. These can be conducted in any order; however, they will be on
fixed dates.
All checks will be completed after
shortlisting but prior to an assessment or interview invite.
We will close the advert as soon
as we reach the required number of applications – so don’t delay apply now!
Whilst we would like to assure you
that OSR Medical endeavours to continue with the recruitment for this position
as planned, please bear in mind there may be outside factors that may cause changes
out of our control. These changes may mean that we must alter our training
delivery in which case we would inform you of any changes to the plan as soon
as we can.
Our policies have been updated
regarding COVID-19 vaccinations. All our frontline staff working in England who
have face-to-face contact with service users are required to have both doses
and their booster vaccine. Depending on the outcome of your application you may
need to provide evidence that you have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19
unless you are medically exempt.
We actively welcome job
applications from candidates who have a disability or who are members of the
BAME, LGBT and Armed Forces community (including: Reservists, Veterans, Spouses
and Cadets). Here at OSR Medical we are proud to have a workforce that reflects
the diverse community we serve. Applicants who have a disability or are members
of the armed forces community who meet the minimum shortlisting criteria for
their post of interest will be invited for an interview.
As well as standard benefits like
generous holiday entitlement and an excellent pension scheme, we offer lots of
extras for our staff, such as free secure parking, full uniform, Employee
Assistance Program, free CPD and training.
Disclosure and Barring Service
(DBS) Check
This post is subject to the
Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order (as amended) and as

will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure
and Barring Service (DBS) to check for any previous criminal convictions. Any
submission
will be performed at the applicant’s cost. Satisfactory references covering the
period of employment as an ACA will be required. Our staff need to be
physically fit.
