Job summary

Are you a dynamic, proactive, focussed, caring individual, looking to work in the fast-paced pre-hospital environment? If so, then OSR Medical Ambulance Service’s (OSRMAS’) Associate Ambulance Practitioner (AAP) Apprenticeship may be for you. AAPs work in a challenging but rewarding role providing urgent, emergency and social care to patients in the pre-hospital environment.

This is an exciting role which is truly patient-focused, delivering high quality clinical care and improving clinical outcomes. The AAP Apprenticeship is ideal for individuals who are driven, hard-working and progressive yet do not have any formal pre-hospital care qualifications.

Training will commence on 27th June 2022 from our North Training Location (Stockton).

Upon commencement of this role, you will be allocated a station. With the following areas available – Manchester, York and Hull.

Please be aware there are stations with limited availability & our current vacancies at these stations are subject to change with little or no notice.

Main duties of the job

The apprenticeship is 18-months in duration. Following initial induction and observation period apprentices will undertake driver training at one of our education centres and undertake a mixture of continued classroom education and deployment within our Frontline 999 Operational Teams working towards the Level 4 Diploma for Associate Ambulance Practitioners. During these operational deployments, apprentices will work alongside qualified clinicians responding to urgent and emergency calls, developing their AAP skills, knowledge and behaviours whilst consolidating practice through completion of an apprenticeship portfolio. At the end of the 18-month apprenticeship, apprentices will undertake an End Point Assessment.

Driving is an essential skill for this role, so you will need a full C1 or C1 provisional category manual driving licence at the point of application with no more than 3 penalty points, with 12 months driving experience. If a provisional is held, the applicant must pass their C1 test before the AAP course start date.

We are looking for people who can demonstrate our values of Customers, Staff and Standards in all that they do. So, if you have experience of remaining calm under pressure, can demonstrate your caring and compassionate nature and don’t mind working shifts then we would love to hear from you.

Once qualified, AAPs work alongside other frontline members of staff, responding to emergency and urgent calls.

About us

Our policies have been updated regarding COVID-19 vaccinations. All our frontline staff working in England who have face-to-face contact with service users are required to have both doses and their booster vaccine. We actively welcome job applications from candidates who have a disability or who are members of the BAME, LGBT and Armed Forces community (including: Reservists, Veterans, Spouses and Cadets). Here at OSR Medical we are proud to have a workforce that reflects the diverse community we serve. Unfortunately, due to the programme design, we are not able to accept applications from individuals with formal pre-hospital qualifications such as ECA, IHCD Technician or FREC 3,4,5.

If you clearly demonstrate that you meet the essential criteria, then we will invite you to an assessment day. We will need to see your driving licence before we can take you out for the driving assessment and you must have provisional C1 to undertake this assessment. You must have no more than 3 penalty points on your driving licence and have at least 12 months driving experience.

Please read the person specification & job description carefully and make sure that all the minimum requirements are clearly noted on your application form in the correct place.

Interviews and assessment days will be held at our York Station. You will be required to attend all assessments. These can be conducted in any order; however, they will be on fixed dates.

All checks will be completed after shortlisting but prior to an assessment or interview invite.

We will close the advert as soon as we reach the required number of applications – so don’t delay apply now!

Whilst we would like to assure you that OSR Medical endeavours to continue with the recruitment for this position as planned, please bear in mind there may be outside factors that may cause changes out of our control. These changes may mean that we must alter our training delivery in which case we would inform you of any changes to the plan as soon as we can.
