Job summary

OSR Medical Ambulance Service is seeking qualified, compassionate, caring and committed individuals to join our dedicated team on flexible working shifts, covering the North of England from our Tockwith (York) station.

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) role is responsible for responding to emergency and non-emergency situations and transporting patients whilst delivering high quality, professional and compassionate care.

Treating patients within the defined scope of practice, the EMT will lead an Urgent Care crew and assess patient's against the Pre-Hospital Early Warning Score. Due to the scope of practice, applicants for this role must hold a valid and in date Level 5 Diploma in First Response Emergency and Urgent Care (RQF) or an equivalent pre-hospital care qualification deemed suitable by our training department. A CPD portfolio will need to be evidenced.

You will undertake Urgent Care and Emergency Care and respond to calls as part of a crew with an ACA, ECA or Paramedic.

Main duties of the job

To be able to transport patients, applicants must be over 21, hold a valid full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 points for more than 2 years for insurance purposes.

Applicants must have at least 2 years experience in the ambulance service sector.

To become an OSR Medical Emergency Medical Technician, you'll need:

1) Undertakes advanced emergency driving to calls promptly taking the quickest and safest route.

2) Deal with patients, relatives and the public in a calm and professional manner ensuring that the dignity of the individual is respected even in hostile or difficult circumstances.

3) To manage, reduce and prevent clinical risk to self and others.

4) To comply with all road safety regulations exercising the safe use of road traffic exemptions in emergency driving and adherence to the Road Traffic Act (1984).

5) To take responsibility for the security of patients property during transportation as well as the safe handling of patients possessions including hand over to the appropriate agency.

6) Undertake emergency driving duties on all types of vehicles operated by the company, if appropriately qualified and licensed.

7) To ensure that all equipment provided is kept to the highest standard and any defects or losses are reported immediately.

8) To ensure that the vehicle provided is cleaned daily and check that the vehicle is roadworthy, including fuel; water and oil. Report any defects on the appropriate forms.

9) To maintain the workplace to a high standard of tidiness and cleanliness at all times. Also, to ensure station and vehicle security.

10) To communicate, report and document the patients history, condition and treatment to colleagues and other healthcare providers either on route to or on arrival at definitive care.

11) To nurture a culture that improves quality, incorporates and embeds clinical governance.

13) To ensure that accurate documentation and records of patient care are kept in line with information governance.

15) Assess and intervenes to assist the Paramedic with the patient in emergency situations.

16) Rapidly and continuously evaluates the patients changing condition, in line with patient care and optimal patient outcomes.

17) Provide pre-hospital life support to those patients who are critically ill or traumatised, always acting within the individuals scope of practice.

18) To ensure that the individuals personal development review is carried out in a timely manner.

19) When required sharing your skills knowledge and experience, offering reflective practice to newly qualified staff.

20) To use professional judgement in managing patient care events ensuring appropriate closure at the point of contact.

21) To ensure when accompanied by less qualified or less experienced staff that they, effectively communicate and supervise any task you have asked them to carry out, taking responsibility where necessary.

22) To exercise and be responsible for the complete duty of care to the patient and relatives until such time as a safe transfer of duty of care.
