An exciting opportunity has arisen at Southlands School, Lymington and Grateley House School, Andover for a dedicated passionate individual to join our clinical team as the Senior Mental Health Practitioner.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to work collaboratively across two sites to work within the existing Wellbeing Clinical Teams. The team consists of Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist, Assistant Clinical Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Holistic therapist and School Nurse. The role will draw upon your existing knowledge of working with children and young people to support the mental health needs of our children through either direct or indirect therapeutic interventions. Your skills and knowledge will be welcomed at Southlands and Grateley to help support our Care and Education teams in supporting children with various mental health diagnosis through induction training, workshops, care planning, direct and indirect work, and working closely with the multidisciplinary team in delivering evidenced based interventions. About us

Our services have a specific focus on individuals who present with high severity needs. We provide a broad range of specialist services across England. These services include specialist education schools and colleges for both day and residential learners, residential care homes and a therapeutic fostering service. Our specialist education schools and colleges support children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger Syndrome (AS), moderate to severe learning disabilities, associated challenging behaviours and complex needs. Our specialist residential care homes support children with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and associated complex needs. We provide care, therapy and education for a discrete cohort of needs within these homes; this includes provisions for children who have experienced complex trauma (neglect and abuse), those who have been sexually exploited, and those with a learning disability. These homes are all supported by specialists schools to support their individual educational needs. We also run a therapeutic fostering service through which we are able to support children with a variety of complex needs within a family environment

Southlands School and Grateley House School are Ofsted-registered independent specialist school, offering 38-week through to 52-week residential and day placements for boys and girls aged 7-19 years old with a diagnosis of Autism or have strong emotional / behavioural traits of the Autistic Spectrum, typically high functioning Autism (Asperger Syndrome). The school can support young people with other associated difficulties such as ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia. Secondary mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression and its associated behaviours can also be accommodated when such difficulties occur as part of (but not in place of) an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). All young people in the school will have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) or a Statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN).and other associated difficulties on the Autistic Spectrum.

The schools are part of Cambian/Care Tech Group, which is the UKs largest provider of specialist services in childrens residential care, education, mental health rehabilitation and learning disabilities, working alongside a network of 7 schools and colleges in the south of England.

Work in effective, evidence-based partnership with children, young people, their families and their educators in the development of plans for the intervention and agreed outcomes. Support and empower children, young people, and their parents/carers to make informed choices about the interventions being offered. Practice, evidence and demonstrate an ability to manage ones own caseload in conjunction with the requirements of the team. Attend multi-disciplinary and multi- agency meetings relating to referrals or children and young people in treatment, where appropriate. Contribute to reports for young peoples progress at annual review and interim reviews. There may be an opportunity to supervise other Mental Health Practitioners, Healthcare Students and Assistants.

The post holder must be confident, have good working knowledge in assessing and supporting acute and complex mental health needs of young people, be an autonomous practitioner, and be an effective verbal and written communicator.
