Job summary
To offer a high-quality
psychology service to people presenting with inpatient rehabilitation needs. To
provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy; offer advice and
consultation to non-psychology colleagues; use research skills for audit,
policy & service development and network across services to promote the
delivery of integrated care. Offering
advice, training, reflective practice and consultation to a range of
stakeholders within and outside the service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder
will occasionally come into contact with clients who display aggressive or
violent behaviour and will need a reasonable degree of fitness to defend against
assault (training will be provided).
The post holder
will be required to conduct psychometric tests and would need to have the
manual dexterity to manipulate small items in order to do so.
The post holder
will be required to use specialist knowledge to develop complex individualised
formulations and treatment interventions, retaining large amounts of
information, and to have the flexibility and skill to review them throughout
the process of treatment.
The post holder will
be required to assess and manage risk on a frequent basis and will need to
sustain concentration in unpredictable situations.

will have to manage frequent exposure to highly distressing and emotive
situations and disclosures, including disclosures of child abuse, suicidal

OVERVIEW OF THIS ROLE:
This
post will be for inpatient rehabilitation at Southleigh Community Hospital,
Croydon.
Southleigh
Community Hospital is a community focussed inpatient unit consisting of rehabilitating
people with enduring mental health problems. We work to empower service users,
encouraging them to take ownership of their recovery and building up their
skills in readiness for a more independent life in the community.
There
are also 6 independent flats that provided to promote independence living in
the community and 19 beds n the main building for male and female residents.
The ward team includes a psychiatrist, psychiatric
nurses, an occupational therapist, two occupational therapists, social worker, clinical
psychologist, and health care assistants, with access to specialist services in
the community. Psychology plays a key role
working both directly with people using services and indirectly as part of the
multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder will be responsible for managing their
own caseload and ensuring that the mental health needs of each individual are
comprehensively assessed in order to ensure that holistic care plans and
tailored interventions are developed.
Such approaches should encompass NSF standards and Government policy
guidelines, as well as best practice within the post holders area of
specialty.
