Job summary
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Senior
Biomedical Scientist (Band 7) to lead and support our Histopathology and
Diagnostic Cytology laboratory. The successful candidate will be instrumental
in maintaining high-quality service standards, supervising laboratory staff,
and contributing to the continuous improvement of our laboratory processes.

Main duties of the job
Lead and supervise a section within the
laboratory, including Digital Pathology, advanced dissection,
Immunohistochemistry, or other specialist areas.
Perform and oversee all histopathology and
non-gynae cytology technical procedures to ensure high-quality standards.
Actively participate in quality management
activities, including audits, service quality improvements, and compliance with
ISO 15189:2022 standards.
Provide training, mentorship, and competency
assessments for staff, ensuring adherence to company and professional
guidelines.
Assist in the implementation of new techniques,
processes, and service developments.
Deputize for the Laboratory Lead and provide
intra-operative technical services e.g., MOHS at offsite locations when
required.

Job responsibilities
Laboratory Testing
- To perform all Histopathology technical procedures in use
in the department to a high quality standard.
- To perform Non-Gynae cytology procedures in
use in the department to a high quality standard.
- Knowledge and experience in
immunohistochemistry techniques.
- To support
the digital pathology workflow.
- To support provision of the extended hours
service to meet operational requirements as appropriate.
- Provide intra-operative technical services MOHS at offsite locations.
- To advise the laboratory lead or Director of Operations of
any technical or operational problems as they arise and offer solutions.
Staff Supervision
-
Lead by example to supervise, mentor and
motivate the staff.
- Provide supervision, mentoring and advising of
other staff as required.
- Assist with
implementation of new processes and techniques.
- Inform Laboratory lead or Director of Operations
of technical and personnel issues.
Staff Training
-
Assist in organising training and competency
assessment of staff ensuring compliance with company and professional body
requirements.
- Participate in training of staff at all levels
both internally and externally as required.
- Assist in designing and implementing training
schedules, programmes and sessions to meet the requirements of the Company
and the IBMS.
- Assist in training and developing Associate
Practitioners and placement students to obtain the registration portfolio.
Quality Processes

Be involved in service quality improvements.
- Assist with the writing and review of
procedures and methods.
- Organise testing of NEQAS materials, review of
results and action any EQA failures.
- Provide data analysis and reports to support
the various company meetings as required.

lead or Director of Operations, or other senior staff members.

required.
- Liaise with persons and clients and personnel
