Job summary
We are recruiting for an experienced Cancer Support Worker to join our team at The Harley Street Clinic. The Cancer Support Worker is an integral part of the MDT providing care to meet the physical, social and psychological needs of patients and their carers who are undergoing diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. Using your experience and knowledge you will work independently, but under the guidance and supervision of the Cancer CNS Team. As fist point of contact for patients and carers triaging calls and escalating complex and clinical concerns to the CNS team as appropriate. As the Cancer Support Worker will also take a role initiating Holistic Needs Assessments and provision of Health and Wellbeing support
The Cancer Support Worker will:
- Assist the Cancer CNSs with clinical and patient related administrative tasks
- Triage phone calls from patients and service users, through dealing with the issues through sign-posting, or escalating to the Cancer CNS team
- Support patients through providing patient information
- Build trust with the physicians and patients through multidisciplinary care coordination
- Work independently, however under the guidance of the CNS team
- Provide emotional support to the patient, family and caregivers.
- Signpost patients to support networks, internally and externally.
- Assist with the coordination of imaging processes, ensuring imaging available for MDT members
- Competent in wound treatment

- Triage phone calls from patients and colleagues, initiating the appropriate response and escalation of concerns
- Support patients with the completion of Holistic Needs Assessments, and follow up plan in terms of signposting and supporting the patient, alongside the CNS team
- Assess the patients information needs and make sure they are aware of the full range of resources and services available within and beyond HCA, including recognised charities.
- Support the patient, their next of kin and family/carers delivering excellent evidence based individualised and personalised care
- Enable patients to understand complex medical information to help them make informed decisions regarding their care and treatment
- Provide basic advice and refer on or sign post to other sources of support
- Respect patient dignity and privacy at all times, in line with the HCA privacy and dignity policy.
- Communicate with colleagues, including Consultant secretaries, to organise patient appointments, as required
- Be involved throughout the patient pathway, from diagnosis, cancer treatment and follow-up care, including outpatients and inpatients
- Be a member of the patient support group
