Job summary
The Speech &
Language Therapist role will be based at our centres in Laverstock (Salisbury) and Ferndown in Dorset as part of an
experienced multidisciplinary team,working with patients undergoing inpatient
and residential packages of intensive rehabilitation as well as outpatients and community visits with a variety of complex neurological conditions such as spinal cord injury,
stroke, brain injury and progressive conditions.
Hobbs works in partnership with care providers to create bespoke, intensive rehabilitation packages on an inpaient or residential basis, supporting clients to complete ambitious rehabilitation targeted to help them to achieve their goals.
The post-holder will have
skills and experience in neurological rehabilitation across the clinical
pathway, including assessment, treatment planning, and discharge planning for
patients presenting with a range of communication and/or swallowing impairments.
This role would be
suited to someone with a passion for neurological rehabilitation who is looking
to develop their clinical skills in adult neurology but would also be
appropriate for a dynamic and enthusiastic newly qualified therapist with
relevant placement experience. Supervision and training will be provided, as
well as access to exciting CPD opportunities, including working with advanced
neurotechnologies and involvement in national and global research projects.
Main duties of the job
- Assessing patients with acquired physical, cognitive, communication and swallowing impairments using a range of formal and informal assessments.
- Practice safely within the legal and ethical boundaries of the profession.
- Formulate patient-centred goals in conjunction with MDT.
- Create and provide one-to-one and group-based intervention to patients with acquired physical, cognitive, communication and swallowing impairments, using a comprehensive knowledge of evidence-informed practice and treatment options.
- Evaluate patients progress using published outcome measures.
- Liaising regularly with the Hobbs MDT and wider care team.
- Organise and plan the Speech & Language Therapy caseload in Laverstock & Dorset in conjunction with the service lead and other clinical team members to meet the patients and service needs, readjusting plans as situations change or arise.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate clinical notes using site-specific software and local procedures.
- Write high-quality patient reports, including MDT discharge reports for inpatients.
- Attend and contribute to patient and family meetings, both face-to-face and via video.
