Job summary
Hobbs Rehabilitation have an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist experienced in treating adults with acquired neurological conditions to join the team at Hobbs South East in Liss, East Hampshire.
The SLT will be a key part of the intensive outpatient team, an interdisciplinary team of neurological specialist Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Clinical Psychologists and rehabilitation assistants, offering NHS-funded, privately-funded and case managed patients an intensive outpatient service, with the focus being high intensity of input.
The SLT will also form part of the inpatient team, again an interdisciplinary team, set within the care home next door - Blenheim Court. Patients here are often NHS-funded for an intensive residential package of neurological rehabilitation with Hobbs Rehabilitation.
The patients have an acquired neurological condition, largely stroke and acquired brain injury. The caseload is approximately 80% communication impairments, 20% dysphagia.
The SLT will be a valuable member of the Hobbs wide SLT team. We cover various Hobbs services at other sites, but meet up once a month for in-service training, CPD, supervision and team meetings.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be based at Hobbs South East in Liss, a rural location with plenty of parking, which has various treatment rooms and gym space for therapy. Blenheim Court care home is a very short walk away, with access to quiet treatment spaces.
The successful candidate must have excellent clinical skills and experience in neurological rehabilitation across the clinical pathway, including specialist assessment, goal setting, treatment planning and discharge management.
An excellent communicator, the SLT will attend regular IDT/MDT meetings, liaise with the patients' previous rehab teams to gain handovers, communicate recommendations for dysphagia and communication management clearly with the care team, and write highly skilled reports.
Hobbs Rehab are known for their IDT approach. The SLT will have the opportunity to run joint sessions, and provide community sessions for the patient's transition back to independent living.
The role also offers prospects of working with neurotechnology, emerging research projects and excellent opportunities for clinical development in your area of interest.

This role is a full time post, but part-time will be considered. Ideally suited to someone who has had previous experience in assessing and managing a variety of communication and swallowing disorders. The caseload is largely made up of patients with communication impairments - motor speech disorders, aphasia and cognitive cognitive communication disorder - with the occasional patient with dysphagia. Post-graduate experience in assessing and managing dysphagia is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
Professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work.
Assess patients with acquired communication and swallowing impairments, using a range of formal and informal assessments.
Formulate patient-centered goals in conjunction with MDT.
Create and provide one-to-one and group speech and language therapy intervention to patients with acquired communication and swallowing impairments, using a comprehensive knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options.
Evaluate patients progress using published outcome measures.
Liaise regularly with the Hobbs MDT (Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Rehab Assistants) and wider care team.
Maintain up-to-date and accurate clinical notes using site-specific software and local procedures.
Write high quality patient reports, including MDT discharge reports.
Attend and contribute to patient and family meetings, both face-to-face and via video.
Manage own diary of a mixed inpatient and outpatient caseload.
