Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to join our specialist therapy team at Hobbs Rehabilitation, the largest independent provider of specialist neurological rehabilitation to adults in the south of England. Hobbs Rehabilitation work closely with the NHS and have several NHS contracts to provide various services to local NHS patients.
We are looking for someone with a passion to develop their clinical skills and experience in neurological rehabilitation across the clinical pathway, including specialist assessment, treatment planning and complex discharge management.
The role of the Speech and Language Therapist will be to work as an integral part of the therapy and care team to provide high quality intensive residential rehabilitation at Harvey Road, Bournemouth, and community-based treatments for NHS patients with neurological conditions in Dorset and West Hampshire. There will be opportunities for working within other Hobbs Rehabilitation outpatient and community caseloads, if appropriate, for both NHS and private patients.
The role offers prospects of working with neurotechnology, emerging research projects and excellent opportunities for clinical development in your area of interest.
Main duties of the job
Duties and Responsibilities.
The successful speech and language therapist will:
Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work.
Assess patients with acquired communication and swallowing impairments, using a range of formal and informal assessments.
Formulate patient-centered goals in conjunction with the MDT.
Create and provide one-to-one and group speech and language therapy intervention to patients with acquired communication and swallowing impairments, using a comprehensive knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options.
Evaluate patients’ progress using published outcome measures.
Liaise regularly with the Hobbs MDT (Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Rehab Assistants) and wider care team.
Maintain up-to-date and accurate clinical notes using site-specific software and local procedures.
Write high quality patient reports, including MDT discharge reports.
Attend and contribute to patient and family meetings, both face-to-face and via video.
Manage own diary of a mixed inpatient and community caseload.

This role is part time but full time will be considered. A flexible working pattern is possible. The successful candidate must have some experience in neurological rehabilitation across the clinical pathway, including assessment, treatment planning and complex discharge management, with a passion for developing these skills to specialist level.
The role will be based at Harvey Road, Bournemouth, working closely with our clients with acquired neurological conditions and the MDT. The patients are mostly NHS-funded, on intensive rehab packages. The role at Harvey Road involves working mostly with clients with communication impairments.
The role will also include seeing community NHS patients in the west of Hampshire - western edge of the New Forest specifically - for swallowing and communication input.
Skills & Experience
Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent
HCPC registration
Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
Minimum of 1 years’ experience of working with adults with acquired neurological conditions is desirable, but this role could be suitable for an excellent NQT. Supervision is available.
Knowledge and understanding of speech and language therapy assessment and treatment approaches within this client group.
Previous post-graduate level experience in dysphagia assessment and management would be preferable, but not essential, as training and supervision will be provided.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work flexibly and adapt to the changing needs of the service.
Ability to work well within an MDT.
The successful candidate must have a full clean driving licence and be prepared to travel to training and community visits.
