Job summary
We are looking for a motivated, experienced and confident Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology/Clinical Neuropsychologist to join our growing Neuropsychology team at Hobbs.
The Neuropsychology team provides a comprehensive Clinical Neuropsychology service to clients with adult-acquired neurological conditions of the central nervous system with an additional small service for those with a formal diagnosis of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). We run an outpatients service (Winchester, Shepton Mallet and Liss) and provide input to intensive residential services as part of the interdisciplinary team (Oaksey House at Lambourn and Bramshott Grange at Liphook).
The currently advertised post would be based mainly at the outpatient services at Martyr Worthy and sometimes at Liss. The post will cover maternity leave but will be permanent. It is envisaged to be full-time but part-time will be considered.
There are four permanent (contracted) Clinical Psychologists specialising in Neuropsychology at Hobbs (three are Clinical Neuropsychologists, one is a Clinical Psychologist specialising in Neuropsychology) with additional associates. The service is led by a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist working as such in the NHS and at Hobbs.
Line management and clinical supervision sits within the Neuropsychology service.
The pay is negotiable with a pay range covering the approximate equivalent of 8a and 8b (AFC) depending on experience.
Main duties of the job
The Neuropsychology team provides a comprehensive Clinical Neuropsychology service to those with a range of adult-acquired neurological diagnoses (e.g. TBI, Stroke, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, MTBI/PCS, FND).
The responsibilities of this role include the application of multi-level psychological knowledge and understanding, consultancy, assessment and intervention.
The post holder will be expected to contribute and offer specialist psychological knowledge and advice to other experienced AHP specialists, stakeholders and commissioners as necessary, representing the Clinical Psychology Service/profession and the Organisation at, for example, service development meetings and may be involved with general/wider staff training and support.
The successful applicant will have experience of working as a Clinical Psychologist with a range of neurological conditions, with highly developed communication, organisational and team-working skills.
The post is a new one and although will cover maternity leave, will be permanent.

To work as an autonomous practitioner within the Psychology service, responsible for psychological aspects of neurological rehabilitation including specialist neuropsychological assessment and intervention. To work with clients with complex health, social and psychological needs, their therapists and other stake holders (e.g. funders, case managers etc). To ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality clinical psychology service to clients referred to the Psychology service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide complex psychological assessment and therapy, at the same time offering advice and consultation on clients psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other non-professional carers working autonomously within professional guidelines. To gather and integrate complex data and information in order to deliver specialist psychological interventions in a range of formats (1:1, couple, family and group interventions).

- Experience of implementing service developments informed by audit and outcome data

Qualifications
Essential
- A BSc degree in Psychology over a minimum of 3 years conferring eligibility for graduate membership of the BPS
- Experience following post graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society. Training to include models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology. Two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology
- Registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS)
Desirable
- Post-doctoral training in additional specialised area of psychological practice, preferably neuropsychology or health psychology
- Completion of supervisor training so job holder is able to supervise trainee clinical psychologists undertaking doctoral training
- Completed or currently undertaking the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN) BPS

- Environment and Physical Demands:
- Ability to work alone in outpatient or community settings, to assess and manage any risk associated with this together with the organisation
- Ability to sit frequently for long periods of time requiring intense concentration, typically for one to three hours during assessments/clinical work or writing in-depth complex reports, e.g. at a computer
- To be responsible for organizing the use and return of appropriate resources (e.g. test equipment) for patient assessment and care planning in the hospital and community as necessary.
- To ensure adherence to organisational policy regarding medical notes
- Keyboard skills
- Ability to drive frequently between organisation bases and other health settings for clinical work and meetings
- Ability to carry test equipment /other work materials and manoeuvre clients appropriately in wheelchairs observing individualised manual handling guidelines at all times
- Personal Qualities:
- Enthusiasm to work within the field of clinical neuropsychology and an ability to articulate the value added by clinical psychology services within the context of multidisciplinary acute hospital and primary care services
- Awareness of the needs of people with physical disability/illness
- Ability to form effective and supportive relationships with clients and staff
- Willingness to work as a member of a team and also autonomously
- Confidence in communicating with paying clients

- Ability to identify and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour
- To be able to develop effective and engaging teaching/training material. The ability to deliver teaching and training to others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings
- Ability to interpret and articulate clearly the role of the profession of clinical psychology based upon a good understanding of the framework of government and national professional policy
