About us

PHL launched a custody healthcare service in January 2019 working as a service provider to Hampshire Police offering direct healthcare services to detained persons in one of the 4 custody centres in Hampshire. The service model involves suitably qualified healthcare professionals (including registered nurses, paramedics and forensic medical examiners) offering services in each of the custody suites for the assigned police force. The local teams work closely with local partner agencies such as substance misuse, mental health and liaison and diversion teams to offer a non-judgemental, patient focused approach which considers their immediate healthcare requirement, long term conditions and co-morbidities and the patients ongoing social and health needs.

PHLs values are embedded throughout the service, ensuring that we offer a caring and respectful service to all patients and partners but ensure we are accountable and work as part of the wider professional team that support these patients.

The service benefits from wider integration with PHLs local urgent care services which has been hugely beneficial to both the custody healthcare and urgent care clinical teams who have joint clinical professional development opportunities.
