PHL has an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join the team based in Whiteley. You will join us on a full time or part time, permanent basis and you will receive a highly competitive salary.

About the General Practitioner role:

PHL is looking to recruit a team of GPs to form the core of its Out-of-Hours Service. The service currently runs weekday evenings from 18.30 to 08.00 next morning, covering weekends and bank holidays, providing services to a population of 1.5 million. You may be in our contact Centre calling back patients, or in a car with a driver attending home visits.

As a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, the post holder will provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patients requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management. They will also provide a highly specialist resource to other healthcare staff, patients and carers and have active involvement in Clinical Governance/ Effectiveness activities.

Main duties of the job

General Practitioner (GP) Skills & Experience:

  • Provide appropriate medical leadership
  • Provide appropriate care and services to patients in all age ranges and level of health care needs
  • Maintain clinical records either written or computer based in line with professional code and requirements utilising appropriate READ coding and other coding systems
  • Liaise with all relevant agencies and services to promote knowledge and awareness of the Service
  • Provide appropriate health education and advice to patients and carers to enable self-management and choice
  • Work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead and the entire team to ensure that effective clinical governance is incorporated in the day-to-day practice in the Medical Service
  • Develop and maintain high levels of communication with patients and carers ensuring effective care delivery

About us

General Practitioner (GP) Skills & Experience:

  • An experienced doctor with GP accreditation
  • Current registration with GMC and NHS performers list (with no conditions preventing working or restrictions on practice)
  • Experience if working in urgent care environment such as A&E, Walk in centres
  • Record of on-going CPD and learning
  • MRCGP examination or equivalent experience
  • Sound knowledge of clinical governance
  • Evidence of ability to maintain and monitor high standards of care
  • Evidence of ability to direct and co-ordinate programmes of care working autonomously and collaboratively

  • GPs within Primary Care
  • Secondary Care e.g. radiology and pathology
  • Wider healthcare services
  • Patient Participation Groups
  • The post holder will be expected to contribute to and support the development of the service. It is expected that the post holder will:
  • Work to improve non-elective care pathways within the healthcare community.
  • Communicate with the Governance Lead and support the delivery of a high quality service and raise any governance issues that may arise.
  • Be responsible for the teaching and development of doctors, nurses and professionals from other disciplines such as Emergency Care Practitioners, GP registrars in Primary Care Skills. This may involve practitioners sitting in and seeing patients where appropriate.
  • Work with the Service Manager to ensure training, significant events, complaints, audits, surveys and other professional service development activities are achieved to ensure the smooth running of the service.
  • Maintain continued education through attendance at courses and/or study days as necessary to ensure professional development requirements for on-going professional registration and licensing are met.
  • Participate in, encourage and support professional development within the service.
  • Ensure that high clinical standards are maintained throughout the service.
  • Participate in annual appraisal and complete an annual personal development plan.
  • Comply with standard operational procedures and departmental and organisational policy.
  • Undertake necessary mandatory training.
