Spire Wellesley Hospital are looking for an experienced Plaster technician to join our established Theatre department on a bank / flexible working contract.

The Wellesley has 3 Theatres (2 laminar flow) and an endoscopy unit, a 33 bedded Surgical Ward covering a wide variety of specialties including Orthopaedics, Bariatrics, General Surgery, Vascular, Plastics, Gynae, Ophthalmology, Spinal, Urology and ENT. We have had a recent Theatre refurbishment to further upgrade our theatre environment and bringing cutting edge technology to our hospital.
Main duties of the job
Duties and responsibilities:
To provide high-quality orthopaedic care by assessing, applying, adjusting, and removing a variety of casts, splints, and orthopaedic supports in accordance with clinical guidelines. The role supports fracture management, musculoskeletal injury care and post operative surgery within the multidisciplinary team, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and education throughout the treatment process.
- Apply, adjust, and remove all types of orthopaedic casts, splints, and braces in line with clinical protocols and patient needs.
- Assess patients injuries in consultation with orthopaedic clinicians to determine appropriate casting or splinting techniques.
- Advise patients and carers on cast care, skin care, and safe mobilization techniques.
- Monitor patients for signs of complications (e.g., swelling, pressure sores, circulatory issues) and escalate concerns promptly.
- Assist in fracture clinics and orthopaedic outpatient settings as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records in compliance with clinical governance standards.
- Ensure plaster room equipment and materials are clean, safe, and fully stocked.
- Participate in departmental training, quality improvement, and health and safety procedures.
- Collect, collate and organise data, interpret all of the information and make a justifiable assessment relating to patients needs, promoting their wellbeing and reducing risks in the short and long term.

- British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) British Casting Certificate, Active on BOA register
- RecognisedPlaster Technician / Orthopaedic Practitionertraining or equivalent experience.
- Working as a practitioner in and across multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience of applying clinical reasoning skills to a range of complex and varied patient case mixes
- Challenging consultants to influence evidence-based practice
- Share evidence-based practices with colleagues to enhance service and standards
- Experience of working in partnership with consultants and participating in creating innovative solution for the service
- Demonstrated competence in application and removal of plaster of Paris, synthetic casts, and splints.
- Knowledge of anatomy, fracture management, and safe immobilisation techniques.
- Excellent patient communication and reassurance skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritise workload.
