Job summary

Spire Parkway Hospital have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Operations Team Leader to join our fantastic team on a full time basis. The individual will be responsible for providing clear professional leadership of administration, ensuring efficient and robust processes exist to support the requirements of service users. Working closely with Heads of Department to help deliver short and long term business achievement within the hospital contributing to the hospitals overall success.

Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull, West Midlands offers a comprehensive range of private hospital services. Our hospital is rated Good by the CQC for all parts of the inspection except for Patient Care, which is rated Outstanding. The report states, Staff treated patients with compassion and kindness, respected their privacy and dignity, took account of their individual needs, and helped them understand their conditions. They provided emotional support to patients, families and carers.

Our dedicated hospital team are passionate about excellent patient care and we offer a range of specialist treatments to patients across Birmingham, Warwickshire and the West Midlands. This includes diagnostic services, rehabilitation, cutting-edge surgical procedures and excellence in specialist fields like orthopaedics, womens health and cancer care.

Main duties of the job

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide clear leadership in the operation and delivery of administration functions which includes Reception & Switchboard, Medical Secretaries, Medical Records and Ward Admin, ensuring they perform to the required commercial, corporate and professional standards.
  • Preparing annual budgets for administration departments, regularly monitoring performance and taking appropriate action to meet financial targets.
  • Developing strong and effective communication channels throughout administration departments by holding regular team meetings and promoting the correct Spire behaviours.
  • To be ultimately responsible for the personnel management of the Administration team, including recruitment, training, sickness recording, annual leave, health and safety and performance management including compliance with DSE assessments and manual handling requirements.
  • Actively promote ongoing personal development within teams to ensure we have a skilled workforce who are up to date with any changes relating to their individual roles.
  • Constantly review performance of the administration services based on feedback received from customers, including consultants and developing action plans for ongoing continuous improvement.

  • Good standard of secondary education with demonstrable literacy and numeracy skills. Highly literate and numerate with strong analytical ability
  • Track record of successful people and process management, ideally in a multi-functional environment
  • Previous experience working in the healthcare industry or a similar customer orientated organisation
  • Ability to understand key business processes and complex business issues.
  • Ability to work with complex patient and finance administration systems and telephony systems.
  • Demonstrated ability in people management to deliver a plan of activity through direct reports
  • Ability to work effectively in an organisation where matrix management is key to success
  • Ability to understand and manage effectively the impact of competing pressures and conflicting priorities
  • IT literate and a competent user of the MS Office suite of products
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, including listening and facilitation skills.

Working Pattern:37.5 hours per week, working Monday to Friday

Start time between 07:00 - 10:00

Finish time between 15:00 - 18:00

The post holder will be leading a complex service and which may require participation in an on call rota. The job may require some evening and weekend working. The majority of the working week will be hospital based, however the job may entail some travel for area or national meetings that may require an overnight stay.
