The main activity is elective (planned) surgery and more complex procedures such as cardiac and spinal surgery are supported by the onsite critical care facilities. The hospital works in partnership with local NHS acute hospital trusts, for example in recent provision of robotic surgery, and there is a large refurbished outpatient department along with extensive diagnostic imaging services

Job responsibilities

Resident Medical Officer | RMO | Surgical | Part time 24 hours- with the option to pick up additional locum shifts | Southampton

Spire Southampton Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Resident Medical Officer to join our experienced team working alongside some of the regions most renowned consultants

* Shifts will cover 7 days a week, either 12 or 24 hour shifts

Spire Southampton provides a wide range of services including day care and inpatient and outpatient services. The main activity is elective (planned) surgery and more complex procedures such as cardiac and spinal surgery are supported by the onsite critical care facilities. The hospital works in partnership with local NHS acute hospital trusts, for example in recent provision of robotic surgery, and there is a large refurbished outpatient department along with extensive diagnostic imaging services

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To be part of a team providing 24 hour medical cover for all routine medical care and response to consultant requests. Immediate first line resuscitation to patients, visitors or staff member as required.
  • To assist in the management of patients and provide back-up support to consultants.
  • To undertake a daily morning and evening ward-round including High Dependency/ Intensive Care Unit with a member of the nursing team ensuring all patients are visited.

Experience required:

  • Current GMC registration
  • Minimum 2 years post-graduation experience in a surgical setting
  • ALS
  • Paediatric experience (desirable)
