Spire Dunedin Hospital have an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our experienced surgical ward team on a full time, permanent basis.This role forms an intrinsic part of our clinical team, working alongside ournursing staff in the surgical ward.

Job Purpose:

To assist the qualified nursing staff, under their supervision, in providing a high quality, comprehensive nursing service to all patients and users, ensuring a high standard of a patient care is maintained in a clean and safe environment.

Main duties of the job

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Undertake routine tasks related to individuals health and well being.
  2. Assist in the delivery of care to meet individuals health and wellbeing needs
  3. Establish and maintain communication with people on routine care matters
  4. Contribute to own personal development.
  5. Assist in maintaining own and others health and safety and security.
  6. Ensure own actions help to maintain quality.
  7. Ensure own actions support equality, diversity and rights
  8. Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with line manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.
  9. To maintain standards of infection control within the hospital and own department and to assist patients to maintain their own infection control needs
  10. To ensure that Clinical Governance and risk management are embedded within daily practice.
  11. Provide and receive patient information, ensuring that all patient information is provided, received and recorded in accordance with the Data Protection Act and Spire Policies.
  12. To meet Spire values, whilst delivering care to patients and relatives
  13. To adhere to the relevant Codes of Conduct, Guidelines and Spire Policies, Procedures, Protocols and Standards at all times

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • NVQ Level 3 is desirable
  • Experience in the following: ECGs, taking blood/blood pressures and patient observations is essential
  • UK right to work and based

Hours:Full-time 37.5 Hours per week. Rotation of shifts Days, Nights and Weekends.

Contract Type: Permanent
