Job summary

The role holder will lead a clinical team in Exeter in assessing patients in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team as appropriate, ensuring treatment is provided based on best practice. The role holder will support the Centre Manger to ensure the highest standards of clinical, operational, financial, health & safety, environmental and governance within the centre.

Within the Orthotic department there are a wide variety of MDTs and extended practice clinics which the role holder will be leading on including, but not limited to:

Paediatrics

Diabetic foot

Foot and ankle

Scoliosis and Spinal

Opcare Exeter:

Opcare Exeter is an established prosthetics and orthotics service based in The Exeter Mobility Centre in a purpose-built facility. All staff work closely with each other across departments to ensure a high-quality service is provided to our patients.

Opcare provide inpatient, outpatient and community orthotic care for a wide variety of patients. There is a complex mix of adult and paediatric patients, which provides a great opportunity to be exposed to interesting and varied caseloads.

Alongside running general, paediatric, external and in-house clinics, the role leads and supports the day-to-day delivery of orthotic services within the local area. There is opportunity to work across company networks and groups including 3D manufacturing, scanning and clinical governance projects.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Delivering excellence in clinical patient care to all service users in accordance with the service criteria.

Line management of the clinical team within their service, building and maintaining a culture which supports personal growth and development and providing mentoring support to less experienced orthotists, graduates, and students; as well as guiding and supporting more experienced staff.

Effectively managing clinical prescriptive standards in line with company product matrices, and the service budget.

Creating effective professional relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) to support the success criteria of the service.

Evaluating, encouraging and supporting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the service and the wider organisation.

The role will be instrumental in helping to develop and implement service improvements for the betterment of patients in the area.

Liaising with the on-site workshop and manufacturing team in Exeter, to ensure high quality output.

The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and busy team, and be supported with local, regional, and national training to develop their clinical skills to support the service. Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

Line manage all orthotic clinical staff, including conducting appraisals, organising training and development, and implementing performance management processes.

Lead by example to ensure the clinical team is engaged, motivated, and delivering against patient and business objectives.

Work collaboratively with workshop staff, admin teams, the Orthotic Manager, and senior management to deliver a smooth, efficient service.

Support senior management in driving continuous improvement for the centre and its patients.

Ensure referral pathways progress effectively to achieve Referral to Treatment (RTT) targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Oversee clinical workload allocation to ensure resources are fully utilised to meet patient, customer, and organisational requirements.

Review HCPC registration status and ensure CPD portfolios are accurately maintained for all clinical staff.

Assist with resolving patient complaints, queries, and concerns promptly and professionally.

Report regularly on clinical activity and progress against objectives to the Clinical Services Manager, Orthotic Manager, and senior management, highlighting any issues requiring support or intervention.

Co-ordinate and undertake clinical audits, research, and development work to meet service and company objectives.

Assess, measure, cast, scan, and treat patients in line with clinical requirements, ensuring patient choice is offered where appropriate.

Review and develop clinical policies, procedures, and patient pathways, auditing their implementation and effectiveness.

Maintain clear and professional communication with central manufacturing facilities to ensure bespoke products are produced accurately and on time.

Ensure timely completion and processing of all patient records and work orders, maintaining high standards of documentation within the clinical team.

Provide information and escalate concerns to the Clinical Services Manager and Orthotic Manager regarding difficulties with product quality, fit, timescales, or specified requirements.

Agree personal and team objectives with the Centre Manager, reporting regularly on progress.

Ensure adequate clinical staff cover during holiday and sickness periods.

Maintain an excellent appreciation of customer needs, treating all patients with dignity and keeping them informed about their treatment.

Practice within the HCPC code of ethics and professional guidelines at all times.

Ensure confidentiality of internal communications as appropriate.
