Job summary
To provide continuous medical cover and support for elective orthopaedic patients, ensuring safe perioperative care, timely management of clinical issues, and effective communication with the multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Main duties of the job
- Provide medical cover on wards and in theatres for elective orthopaedic patients.
- Monitor and manage perioperative patient conditions, including early identification and escalation of complications.
- Support consultants and surgical teams with pre-op and post-op medical management.
- Liaise closely with nursing staff, physiotherapists, pharmacists, and other MDT members to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in handovers and ensure accurate documentation of patient care.
- Contribute to the delivery of enhanced recovery and same-day discharge pathways.

Qualifications
Essential
- Medical degree with full GMC registration and appropriate licensing to practise.
- Experience in surgical or orthopaedic medicine, preferably in a high-volume elective setting.
- Competent in acute medical assessment and management.
Desirable
- Experience working in fast-paced orthopaedic or surgical units.
- Knowledge of enhanced recovery protocols and perioperative medicine.
