Job summary

To ensure that the reception area of the Practice runs smoothly, provides a high level of service to patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the Practice team

Main duties of the job

Deal with telephone enquiries and face to face, received from patients, secondary care and other external agencies and responding to these by directing them to the appropriate member of the primary healthcare team.

To be responsible for undertaking a wide range of patient service and administrative duties which link in and support the multidisciplinary team. 

 Duties can include but are not limited to, greeting and guiding patients, effective use of the appointment system, booking appointments, processing of information and assisting patients as required. 

To act as the central point of contact for patients, the distribution of information, messages and enquiries for the clinical team, liaising with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers. 

To be familiar with and abide by the principles and core values that underpins the NHS.

St. Helens Medical Centre is situated in the small village of St Helens on the Isle of Wight. 

The practice hosts a dedicated team of multi disciplinary roles and is an active member of the North East Primary Care Network (PCN).

Making appointments

Taking requests for prescriptions

Giving out results

Ambulance transport bookings

Home visit requests

Deal with general enquiries and complaints

Contacting other providers

Reception Duties

Register temporary residents

Greet and direct patients and visitors

Making appointments

Handing out prescriptions

Ensure outstanding queries are explained and handed over to next shift, as necessary

Respond to needs of doctors and nurses during surgery

Collect payments from patients for non-NHS services

Deal with general enquiries and complaints

Filing

Pulling Lloyd George envelopes when requested by doctors

Prescriptions

Dealing with requests for repeat prescriptions

Raising prescriptions as per Practice protocols

Dealing with queries relating to repeat prescriptions

General

Input and extract information from Practice computer system

Observe health and safety guidelines at all times

General housekeeping (e.g. keeping reception and waiting areas tidy)

Make refreshments for doctors and other team members, participate in washing up

Any other reasonable duties as necessary
