Job summary

The Alliance Teaching Practice is a large general practice located in Coventry with a registered population of just over 20,000 patients. We look after patients across 4 branch surgery sites.

The Practice is part of the Coventry & Rugby GP Alliance, i.e., a GP Federation organisation. The Practice has access to support for many practical aspects of running a Practice.

We have a lead clinician for each site, in addition to support from one of the experienced GPs in the GP Alliances Medical Directorate. Some of our recent GP recruits have taken on Fellowships to help them with their personal and career development. We pride ourselves in being a teaching practice and we regularly take new cohorts of medical students from the University of Warwick medical school. Our strategic priorities for Alliance Teaching Practice include introducing training programmes for GPs in training, Nurses, and reception, administrative and management staff.

We are looking for salaried GPs to take on 3 clinical sessions per week.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will work independently as the named GP for ATP Discharge to Assess (D2A) beds;

In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, reports and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation.

In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.

Providing counselling and health education.

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Collecting data for audit purposes and complying with QOF requirements.

Delivering enhanced services.

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoid hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).

Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

  • MRCGP

  • Experience of working in primary care in an area with significant health problems.
