Ellern Mede is an internationally renowned specialist service for people with eating disorders and our expert clinicians offer both inpatient and outpatient treatments tailor-made to each individual. We offer short term recovery-focused treatment as well as high dependency intensive treatment for complex, challenging cases.
We are looking for an experienced administrator to take on the new role of Medical Secretary, the position is initially for 6 months’ however this may increase.
The post holder will work as a member of the administration team with the objective of providing high quality, timely and accurate support to the clinical team.
Main duties of the job
The principle task of the post is to provide efficient and effective secretarial, clerical and administrative support to the medical team at Ellern Mede.
You will provide secretarial support to Consultant Psychiatrists within the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department and assist in the organisation of appointments and diaries etc. and will work unsupervised, managing your own workload, exercising the highest standard of confidentiality using independent judgement and initiative, based on acquired knowledge and experience, demonstrating influence and composure when working under pressure and to strict deadlines.

- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to use IT equipment to include e-mail, Internet/Intranet

- Awareness of UN Convention on Rights of the Child/Human Rights Act/Data Protection Act in relation to practice
- Awareness of Children Act 1989 - Child Protection Procedures Demonstrate
- Awareness of issues around information sharing and confidentiality
- Excellent clerical, typing, and presentation skills including Windows, Excel & Power Point

- Ability to drive and have vehicle available for work
- Able to use a keyboard
- Ability to set up systems to collect and collate data electronically using Word, Excel
- Ability to use Power Point or willingness to learn as necessary
- Ability to take minutes and type accurate report
- Able to lift and manoeuvre light goods for short distances
- Good history/reliability of attendance at work
- Ability to assess working conditions, undertake basic risk assessments, report on outcomes and implement recommendations under guidance
- Ability to practice safely in relation to VDU equipment
