Job summary

Ellern Mede Derby are looking for an appropriately qualified (HCPC registered) psychologist with an enthusiasm for working with individuals with eating disorders. The post will be appointed to dependent upon experience and as such applications would be welcomed from both clinicians who are well established in their career, as well as more recently qualified clinicians who would like support to develop expertise within this specialist field.

As the service in Derby is new it is anticipated that the psychology post would be integral in supporting and developing the team as well as in providing a clinical input to patients and their families. It is anticipated that the post will be supported by an assistant psychologist who with appropriate supervision would assist with service evaluation, outcome data collection and clinical interventions. Supervision, guidance and mentorship for the post is available within the company from the existing psychology team as well as the senior MDT and leadership team. Excellent CPD opportunities are available.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Clinical Psychologist will lead the psychology team at Ellern Mede Derby and will work closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team. Specialist psychology interventions and therapeutic relationships play a huge role in supporting vulnerable young people to overcome their eating disorder and prepare for life outside of hospital.

Your professional relationship with the young people will be close, but boundaried, supportive, but firm with the eating disorder. You need to be psychologically strong, and empathic. You will encounter difficult interactions.

You will have the full support of your manager, team and regular supportive supervision, as well as access to our Employee Assistance Programme.

Ellern Mede Derby is a brand-new specialist service for children and young people with eating disorders. The hospital comprises of Trent Ward, a 7-bed ward for Children aged 8-17 years with eating disorders and Derwent Ward, a 10-bed ward for young people aged 18-25 years with eating disorders.

  • Applicants must have current UK professional registration
  • 6 months post qualifying work with young people with eating disorders
  • Desirable inpatient CAMHS eating disorder experience
  • Computer skills in Electronic Patient Records
  • Motivation, enthusiasm, flexibility and self-awareness
  • Satisfactory health clearance
  • Clear DBS check
  • Knowledge of mental health difficulties in young people
  • Knowledge of therapeutic relationship principles and the CPA

Desirable

  • 1.Demonstrates breadth of experience and awareness in and outside of Eating Disorders / psychiatry and medicine
  • 2.Demonstrates use of evidence based practice
  • 3.Management/financial awareness
