Job summary

Have you completed a psychology degree and would like to gain some valuable firsthand  experience working as a psychological assistant practitioner, with the opportunity for further training? Would you like to be part of a team that values your input? Are you looking for an opportunity to put your knowledge and skills into practice?

We are looking for driven and compassionate candidates to join our teams in Ellern Mede Ridgeway and Barnet in London to help positively shape the lives of the children and young people we work with. Beyond the reward of knowing you're transforming lives; you'll be part of a forward-thinking team that's dedicated to constantly improving our services. At Ellern Mede, We Never Give Up on a Patient.

As a psychological assistant practitioner, you will help the patients meet their health and social care needs by providing support that is of the highest standard. Your determination to never give up will act like a beacon of hope for our patients as they embark on their treatment journey to address their eating disorder and other co-occurring mental health difficulties. You will be part of the nursing/ward staff and bring your psychological knowledge and experience (under supervision from the nurses and clinical psychologists) to the young people’s treatment.

The primary duty and responsibility is to support the work of the clinical and nursing teams by bringing in a psychological perspective, knowledge and skills (under supervision from a clinical/counselling psychologist) in providing high quality and safe care to patients and their families.

You will be offered regular group supervision by a clinical psychologist. As part of your development, you will be offered up to 8 hours online training in enhanced cognitive-behavioural therapy for eating disorders (CBT-E), with a dedicated budget for further CPD training (e.g. in DBT, trauma-informed care, positive-behavioural support/managing challenging behaviour) after 6 and 12 months.

At the end of 12 months service (full time work) you will be entitled for a training budget for relevant courses of up to £750.

Working with children and young people with eating disorders can be exceptionally challenging. You will need to be emotionally resilient at times, however you will be working as part of team who will support you as well.
