Job summary
As a Physician Associate (PA) you will be acting within your professional boundaries, providing care for patients from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care, as part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). You will be expected to work alongside GPs, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Pharmacists, nursing staff and allied health professionals to ensure you can deliver excellent patient care in your allocated GP practice. You will work holistically to deliver care across the primary/secondary interface.
Main duties of the job
- To deliver a high standard of
patient care using advanced autonomous clinical skills with in-depth
theoretical knowledge and evidence based practice working under the
supervision of a GP.
- To manage a clinical caseload and
deal with presenting patients needs in a primary care and secondary care setting.
- To provide clinical leadership
where appropriate within the practice and support other members of the
team to develop and maintain clinical skills appropriate to your role and
expertise.
- Champion novel ways of working across
the primary/secondary care interphase.
- Provide a Safeguarding role
within the practice for adults and children and signpost when appropriate.

Primary Care Network. We serve a population of 90k patients across 9 practices
covering Ardwick & Longsight and will be allocated to Dickenson road medical practice.
The role is pivotal to improving the quality of care and operational efficiencies so requires motivation and passion to deliver excellent service to patients within the practice, at home or within the Care Homes

- Instigate and interpret diagnostic tests working within the PAs scope of practice, and disseminate and communicate this information to the patient.
- Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice.
- Offer a holistic service to patients and their families, developing where appropriate an on-going plan of care/support with an emphasis on prevention and self-care.
- Refer patients directly to other services or agencies using appropriate referral pathways.
- Ensure safe handover of care within and outside the practice as appropriate.
- Work directly with members of the practice primary health care team and support integrated patient centred care through appropriate working with wider primary care / social care networks.
- Identify community health needs and participate in the development of patient/family-centred strategies to address these.
- Perform specialised diagnostic physical examinations and treatment procedures.
- Undertake clinical skills e.g. phlebotomy, ECG, spirometry & X-ray interpretation with supervision as appropriate.
Complete necessary documentation relating to their patient.
- Contribute to the practice quality targets to consistently achieve high standards of safe, evidence-based, cost-effective patient care and service delivery.
Recognise limitations of clinical competency and ask for help and advice as required.
