Job summary
The Islington Community Ear, Nose, and Throat Service (ICENTS) has been a trusted healthcare provider since 2009, delivering specialist ENT care at accessible, local clinics. Managing over half of Islington's ENT referrals, ICENTS focuses on reducing outpatient referrals and empowering both GPs and patients to manage ENT issues more effectively.In September 2023, ICENTS expanded its reach by launching a sister service in Haringey in partnership with Whittington Health NHS Trust. This collaboration underscores our commitment to providing high-quality, community-based ENT services. Together, ICENTS and the Haringey ENT Service deliver innovative care tailored to meet the diverse needs of patients across the region.
As a GPwER in ENT, you will become part of this forward-thinking network, working closely with experienced ENT specialists and benefiting from structured mentorship and collaborative opportunities.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
- Referral Triage: Review and action referrals within two working days. Direct patients to the appropriate care pathway, including the community ENT service, GP management, 2WW referrals, or secondary care.
- Clinical Duties: Conduct face-to-face, telephone and virtual consultations. Provide clinical services such as audiology assessments, microscopic and endoscopic examinations. Deliver accurate diagnoses, effective treatments, and timely referrals.
- Documentation and Communication: Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and timely patient records using standardized ENT templates. Ensure proper documentation of patient consent and communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Supervision and Development: Participate in regular group supervision meetings led by ENT consultants to discuss complex cases and refine clinical expertise. Receive in-clinic mentorship from experienced ENT GPwERs and Consultant support from University College London Hospital to develop practical skills and confidence.
- Collaboration and Support: Work collaboratively with administrative teams to address clinical and non-clinical queries. Flexibly adapt to service needs, working across clinic sites in Haringey and Islington.

Islington GP Federation (IGPF) is a growing organisation representing 31 practices; we have established ourselves as a leader in new ways of working, including running Islingtons extended access primary care services (I:HUB) as well as supporting the Islington Primary Care Networks (PCNs).
Our current range of services include the Extended Access Service, I:HUB, Community Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Integrated Community Gynaecology, practice-based pharmacists and a range of practice support mechanisms.
IGPF works very closely with a range of partners including the regional commissioning group, NHS England, Healthy London Partnership, Public Health, local hospitals such as UCLH, Whittington Health and the London Borough of Islington.
IGPF is the host organisation for the Primary Care Network (PCN) workforce and the Islington Training Hub and has been working for over two years to create training and development programmes that meet the needs of staff working in primary and community care settings.
IGPF runs four Islington GP practices, one on a GMS contract, two on APMS contracts and one caretaking contracts
