Job summary

Passionate about general practice? A bit worried for its future - your future! - too? We are seeking one or more GPs to help Islington GP Federation deliver excellent care in a practice serving a deprived urban area. Barnsbury Medical Practice is a fast growing practice currently under a caretaking contract (care having been transformed by our team in this first year).

You are a GP who cares a lot about high quality and personal care. You would like to work collaboratively with your practice clinical lead and other Federation colleagues to ensure the best for patients in your practice. You may be interested in and attracted to being part of a wider organisation with high quality, personal care at its heart. However, you understand that IT innovation and other at-scale opportunities must be maximized.

Islington Federation is likely to be taking on a (larger) second Islington practice later in 2022, thus greatly increasing the opportunity for constructive support of primary care teams and greater efficiencies across both. This role will provide a hybrid model of remote healthcare and in depth planned care; remote sessions will be offered at same rate as face to face sessions. You as a GP will have protected time to attend clinical meetings with opportunities for flexible sessions.

A free NCL laptop will be provided to successful candidate/s to support work from home sessions.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic GP who wishes to be a part of the Barnsbury clinical team and to deliver high quality care. You will be working with other GPs, one of who will be the lead of the clinical team. In addition, you will work with practice-based pharmacists, a range of primary care nurses and HCAs in the course of providing clinical care for your patients.

You will be employed by IGPF, a dynamic organisation where there is the possibility to adapt and develop with the practice team. IGPF is interested in building general practice that is sustainable for the future, maintains high quality care and is a pleasant place to work.

IGPF is currently in the process of understanding how planned care can be undertaken in a modern and manageable way. There is an opportunity to help design, implement and work within innovative systems of patient care.

About us

The Islington GP Group Limited, trading as Islington GP Federation (IGPF), is a rapidly growing organisation representing the interests of general practice in Islington. It is an established leader in the provision of new and integrated healthcare, including supporting the new Primary Care Networks and developing quality improvement capabilities in general practice. Its range of services include I:HUB, community ENT, community gynaecology, practice-based pharmacists, the NCL COVID support service, long term condition management optimisation, proactive screening and evaluation trials, and a range of general practice support propositions. IGPF is host to Islington’s Training Hub.

IGPF works very closely with strategic, commissioning and provider partners, including the local clinical commissioning group, NHS England, Healthy London Partnership, Public Health, local hospitals, such as Whittington Health, the local authority, third sector organisations and patient representation groups. It plays an important role in the development of the health and care landscape across Islington, and within its North Central London (NCL) regional footprint.

After successfully bidding for the caretaking contract for BMP at the end of 2019, the contract did not actually commence until mid-January 2021, after one month’s notice. The contract has since been renewed and we are looking to make further appointments.

At the practice we have a staff daily huddle where the whole team get together to review any issues or difficult cases

Working with IGPF will give you opportunities to take on more clinical leadership responsibilities and get involved with at-scale projects.
