Main duties of the job

We would love you to join us as a Bank Specialty Doctor working as part of a small but expert team of doctors who provide 24/7 cover to our 7 bedded in-patient unit which includes providing medical management of in-patients from admission to death or discharge and the out of hours first on call service. During day sessions you will also support our community teams who care for patients across the whole of North Devon and be an expert resource for colleagues working across our local health and social care system. You will be supported by a Consultant in Palliative Medicine and our contracted Consultant consortium, Supportive Care Ltd who also provide second on-call support out of hours. You must have full GMC Registration, with a current licence to practise and the experience and qualifications to meet the current entry criteria for Specialty Doctor roles. Our doctors need to be able to demonstrate the appropriate level of clinical experience with our patient group, often gained in General Practice, general medicine or another relevant area of clinical practice. Working with us in this capacity is ideal for those seeking to enhance a long-term portfolio career alongside General Practice, or another relevant clinical specialty. Full induction will be provided including opportunities to shadow our substantive team of Specialty Doctors.

Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, to ensure care encompasses the physical, emotional and psychological needs of patients and their families. Creating and maintaining clear, accurate, concise and contemporaneous clinical records using our electronic patient record. Utilising other electronic and digital systems, hosted by key partner organisations, to help coordinate care between those organisations and across the system. Working with clinical teams to support the continuity of medical care to patients under the care of the hospice across, in-patient, community and our out-patient settings. Fully participating in the hospice multidisciplinary team meeting, daily capacity meeting and community team case oversight discussions. Providing the first clinical on-call service to the bedded unit on a roster basis. Providing expert advice to colleagues regarding specific cases and the management of palliative care issues. Engaging in supervision and clinical case review to support own and others practice. Engaging in audit and research as required, actively pursuing opportunities to promote this within the hospice. Driving a culture of continuous learning and evidenced based practice Ensuring that good infection control practices are followed at all times and maintaining yup to date knowledge of infection control policies, procedures and guidance relevant to the area of work. Understanding your role in the safeguarding of adults and children by being able o identify risks, and recognise signs of harm, abuse or neglect including how to report concerns and take immediate action to protect a person at risk of harm or abuse.
