Job summary

The Healthcare Management Trust are seeking a Head of Patient Safety & Improvement to join our team and to help us move forward on the next phase of our growth journey. This role reports to the Director of Clinical Governance and Assurance.

The role will be remote with travel to sites as necessary.

The role will ideally be 0.6wte but both Part Time and Full Time options will be considered.

Main duties of the job

As HMTs designated Patient Safety Specialist, the Head of Patient Safety and Improvement plays a key part in the delivery of HMTs Patient Safety Incident Response Plan (PSIRP) and continuous quality improvement programmes. This role requires an individual who is driven, ambitious and passionate about the provision of high quality, safe and effective care to patients and residents with a desire to influence and work in close partnership with clinical, managerial, and operational teams.

The post holder will work across the organisation, providing support and expert advice and guidance to the Hospital Directors, Heads of Clinical Service, Care Home Managers, and medical advisory committees on the delivery of consistently high standards in patient safety, resident safety and continuous quality improvement.

This role will provide dynamic, senior leadership, visibility and expert support to the patient and resident safety culture and safety systems and have sufficient seniority to engage directly with the executive team.

To excel in this role, you should hold a relevant degree or postgraduate qualification, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of experience working as a senior leader in a healthcare setting within quality and safety. You will be experienced in undertaking patient safety investigations with an in-depth knowledge of a variety of system-based tools. You should have undertaken accredited PSIRF investigation and oversight training, hold a qualification in quality improvement and have a solid human factors understanding with the ability to train others in this. Ideally you will have experience of working in adult social care and come with ideas on how PSIRF can be adapted for residents.

You will have the ability to engage with patients, residents, families and staff for both improvement purposes and in emotionally challenging situations. You will have a strong track record of achievement in patient safety, quality improvement and assurance and be able to demonstrate resilience, impartiality and the ability to challenge and question appropriately.

As there is a requirement to travel, a full valid UK drivers license and own vehicle is essential.
