Physician Associate - Tonbridge Primary Care Network

Job summary

West Kent Primary Care (WKPC) are seeking to employ a Physician Associate (PA) on behalf of Tonbridge Wells Primary Care Network (PCN). The PCN is experienced at embedding non-Dr professions into clinical settings. The PCN have a growing team of First Contact Physiotherapists, Clinical Pharmacists and Social Prescribers delivering care across the PCN to five surgeries. The PA will develop their role in Primary Care under guidance from a named GP Clinical Supervisor.

This is a fixed term 12 month contract, with view to extended.

Main duties of the job

The PA will undertake clinical sessions within the Primary Care Network, dependent on patient demand and the needs of the network.The PA will be aligned to specific practices to enable effective supervisory relationships to be built with named General Practitioner(s). The PA will build their confidence in triage, and management of 'on the day' primary care and communication with GP and MDT colleagues in the ongoing follow up and treatment of patients as required.In addition to practice work, some time will be spent working in Enhanced Access hours after a period of induction and settling into the role.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Postgraduate Diploma/Masters in Physician Associate Studies from an accredited UK or USA University/higher education institution
  • AND:
  • Member of the Faculty of Physician Associates at the RCP
  • Registration on the PA Managed Voluntary Register
  • Current and valid certification or recertification by the Physician Associate National Examination

Desirable

  • Clinical teaching and assessing certificate
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development activities

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working as a Physician Associate either in Primary or Secondary Care or Mental Health

Desirable

  • Recent experience of working in UK General Practice, Urgent Care or A&E environment
  • Management of patients with complex needs
  • Management of frail, elderly patients with co morbidities
  • Experience in telephone consulting
