Job summary

Newham Health Collaborative(NHC) CIC is looking to appoint a Chief Nurse(CN) to work closely with the Medical Director and the Senior Leadership team. The CN will have responsibility to lead the development and support to our employed and bank Nursing and HCA staff group.

There has never been a more exciting time to join Newham Health Collaborative(NHC) CIC. The GP fed has recently gained Community Interest Company status which reflects the dedicated work of many teams and individuals who have set the standard for delivering high quality services in Newham at all levels of the workforce.

The post holder will be a trained and registered nurse, with a current and on-going registration and in practice.

GPN Experienced/Registered Adult Nurse in practice with current and valid NMC Registration (no restrictions and/or cautions)

Educated to Masters Level in a subject relevant to the roleor have secured equivalent work related skills and understanding

Computer literate including use of Microsoft Office/Excel

This role is 12 months fixed term, with the view to potentially be a permanent role.

Main duties of the job

The CN will lead a small department that has opportunity to grow, providing oversight, and leadership including:

  • Supervising nurse managers and the comprehensive nursing teams that they lead as well as providing support to HCA staff as necessary
  • Recruit new nurses and advising on suitability for roles and competence of nursing and HCA staff per role
  • Facilitating training opportunities for nurses and HCAs whilst supporting their development
  • Providing a focal point and visible leadership for the GPNs across Newham.
  • Supporting the development of offers to Practices and PCNs to raise standards of care across Newham

You will work with our local clinicians and managers to support and maintain high standards of CQC accreditation across NHC and be the primary lead for our infection control policies and their oversight.

You will work with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the promotion of excellence in Primary Care Nursing for Newham. Working closely with GPNs across the Borough you will support the development of services and offers that the federation should provide to enhance Primary Care Nursing.

You will act as an advocate for the clinical workforce ensuring that there is a credible pathway for continuous professional development and research for our clinical workforce making NHC an aspirational place to work for clinicians across the country.

Newham Health Collaborative(NHC) CIC is a GP federation representing all the GP practices within the Newham borough boundaries. This covers a population of approximately 400,000 patients. We are established as a Community Interest Company, wholly owned by our 43 GP practice members. We invest any surplus we secure into services for primary care and our patients.

Although Covid vaccinations are no longer a mandatory requirement within the NHS, NHC continue to encourage and support the vaccination uptake as this remains the best line of defence against Covid19. The safety of our staff and Newham's patients is a top priority for us at NHC.

You will also build strong partnerships with external stakeholders across primary, secondary, community and the Local Authority and with staff in local GP practices. You will work closely with and advise the Training hub on the requirements of Newhams GPN and NHCs nursing workforce on their training requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- All nursing and HCA leadership and oversight.

- The appointment of nursing and HCA staff to NHC employment and the bank.

- Oversee the progression of the Roving Nurses with respect their developing GPN clinical competencies.

- Working with the Training Hub and other partners to ensure there are suitable arrangements for training and development of all nursing staff- ANPs, GPNs ,ANs and HCAs.

- Line management of staff as set out in the direct reports.

- Developing the strategy for NHC to develop its nurse support offer to GP Practices.

- Leadership of NHC Immunisations strategy and policies oversight of compliance with SOPs and national expectations.

- Leadership of NHC infection control strategy and policies oversight of compliance with required standards.

- Guiding the SLT and Board on matters of nurse development and opportunity.

- Building relationships with practices and the partnership groups (ICS) to understand and advise NHC on opportunities and services development.

- Escalating issues and risks to appropriate managers and clinical leads including the Medical Director.

- Close working with HR colleagues to ensure that all new starters are meeting compliance standards and are supported to operate safely.

- Act as the key liaison point for new starters in the nursing teams.

- Ensure visibility and engagement at the ICS Nurse leadership level

- Work with other senior nurses / clinicians to develop new pathways of care for NHC under the direction of SLT

- Contributing to service development and working with SLT colleagues to support the growth of NHC as a support service to our Federation members.
