Job summary

Apprentice Technical Support Engineer

We are looking for an apprentice to join our IM&T team on a fixed term contract for 18 months.

What is the role?

  • Youll work closely with the IM&T Helpdesk / Support team to learn and expand your technical knowledge.
  • You will be responsible for supporting with the day-to-day queries from the services across the Federation, which will come via phone calls or emails.
  • Youll work alongside a skilled team, developing your own skillset whilst also undertaking an Information Communication Technician Course.

We will work alongside the successful candidate to ensure they are sufficiently inducted and trained; there will be regular constructive supervision in place. It is important to us that you feel safe and supported in the role.

  • Youll need to hold GCSES or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English, and be willing to engage and undertake further learning as a part of your apprenticeship qualification.
  • Youll need to have a basic knowledge of IT and systems with a passion to developing this.
  • Youll need to be happy to participate in the on-call rota as a part of your role, once you are comfortable and competent to do so.

Contract type:

This is a fixed term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship qualification, which is typically 18 months but can be less. This role will involve working full time across Monday Friday, and future participation in the on-call rota will also be implemented once comfortable.

Place of work: Walton Clinic - Felixstowe, and various locations across Suffolk.

Job Purpose

The postholder will work closely with the IM&T Helpdesk / Support team to learn and expand their technical knowledge. They will be responsible for supporting with the day-to-day queries from the services across the Federation. They will work alongside a skilled team developing their own skillset to become a qualified IT Technical Support Engineer.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

To take helpdesk calls, logging and tracking calls ensuring that all issues are managed and resolved.

To understand and learn computer repair techniques with hardware and software issues in a workbench and safe test environment.

To work alongside the IM&T helpdesk / support team to respond to 1st line remote helpdesk requests in a timely manner escalating to the Technical Manager or IT Leads where appropriate.

To assist with the installation of hardware and software, ensuring a seamless integration and functionality with minimal disruption to services.

To attend site visits with other members of the team to support with learning and understanding of the organisation.

To participate in the on-call rota as and when required.

Once deemed suitably experienced, the post holder will also be included on the on-call rota to provide support to the Federations Out of Hours service that runs across Suffolk in evenings, and weekends.

To undertake any other ad hoc duties as requested by the IT Leads, Technical Manager or IM&T Manager
