Job summary

Practice Finance Manager

We are looking for a Practice Finance Manager to join our team at Unity Healthcare in Haverhill.

What is the role?

  • Youll work as part of the senior management team to ensure the smooth, safe and efficient financial operation of the practice.
  • You will have led responsibility for the finances for Unity, including; budget setting, managing practice income and overseeing the practices ordering system for medical supplies.
  • Youll be able to deputise for the Business Manager when they are away from the practice where needed.

Youll join Unity Healthcare, which is a GP practice in Haverhill managed by Suffolk GP Federation who are a not-for-profit, community interest company and our main purpose is to support Primary Care across Suffolk, including support with working collaboratively and at scale. We also deliver a portfolio of NHS services across Suffolk and North East Essex, including Podiatry, Ultrasound, Diabetes, as well as Urgent Care Services including the Out of Hours face-to-face Service in Suffolk.

Main duties of the job

We will work alongside the successful candidate to ensure they are sufficiently inducted and trained; there will be regular constructive supervision in place. It is important to us that you feel safe and supported in the role.

  • Youd need a professional accountancy qualification, such as ACA, or ACCA in order to be successful.
  • Its essential youve worked within financial management within a primary care setting previously and have had exposure to primary care contracts.
  • Youll also be required to interpret a large amount of complex data and support with operational and strategic decisions.

Contract type:

This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours a week on a permanent contract.

Deputise for Business Manager

Financial Management

To have lead responsibility for Unitys finances:

o To work closely with Fed Finance Manager

o To set annual staff and expenses budget and monitor and agree these as part of the Feds budgeting cycle

o Maximise practice income including LES, DES, CCG, and other NHS or Public Health funded initiatives through the timely preparation and submission of claims

o To provide monthly updates on differences between target and expected achievement

o To oversee practices ordering system for medical and other practice supplies

o To carry out the administration and reconciliation of all practice income and expenditure

o To ensure that targets are achieved within the Quality Outcomes Framework and submit annual returns and manage NHS England annual review Visits and the submission of evidence as required.

Staff Management

Support with the recruitment and retention of practice staff, including salaried doctors

Ensure that recruitment procedures provide for appropriate checks on the suitability of staff offered employment and that staff personnel files contain records as per Federation HR guidelines

Maintain up-to-date human resources documentation including job descriptions, person specifications, employment contracts and policies.

Support and mentor staff, both as individuals and team members as necessary

Liaise closely with the team leads to ensure delegated human resource duties are maintained within practice policies and provide support as required

To cover staff rotas to ensure adequate cover for absence for members of the practice team during periods of annual leave

Premises Management

Ensure adequate cleaning, maintenance, safety, fire prevention and general security of the premises.

Facilitate repairs, replacement of necessary decoration to maintain good order of premises and fixtures.

Manage the use by third parties of the premises and arrange for the payment of a service charge where appropriate.
