Job summary
NCL ICB is looking to recruit an enthusiastic General Practitioner to join our dynamic Safeguarding Adults's Team in Barnet as a Named GP for Safeguarding Children.
The post holder will work two sessions per week as part of the Safeguarding team, the primary role of the Named GP will be to support primary care colleagues in Barnet to meet their statutory duties and provide specialist advice on individual cases of concern.

Main duties of the job
Named GPs for child safeguarding are expected to work in partnership with clinical and managerial colleagues within their Directorate, throughout NCL ICB, and across our wider health and care partners in North Central London. In particular named GPs for child safeguarding are expected to work in teams with other named GPs for child safeguarding leading on similar work areas in other part of the NCL ICB and form wider communities of practice across North Central London.
All roles will be reviewed on an annual basis and may change in line with the ICB's annual Business Plan.
The named GP for Safeguarding children is a statutory role which provide borough-based safeguarding clinical leadership in each of the five boroughs of NCL (Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington).
The named GP will advise and support borough general practices to meet their responsibilities to safeguard children. The Named GP will work closely with the designated professionals and the strategic lead for safeguarding children across the ICB. This will require collaboration with the statutory agencies namely Social Care and the Police as well as other Agencies such as Education, Third Sector and NHS providers across the health economy of that area.

Education / Qualifications
Essential
- Qualified and currently registered as a GP with considerable experience in the care of children and young people
- Practicing as a GP with a provider of primary medical services to a registered list of patients under a General Medical Services, Personal Medical Services or Alternative Provider Medical Services contract for at least 2 sessions a week
- Evidence of ongoing post-registration education and training.
Experience
Essential
- Be an experienced GP (minimum of 3 years) of good professional standing (as evidenced by GMC licence to practice and no known prejudicial factors, outstanding complaints or litigation)
- Have RCGP or equivalent
- Practising clinician with relevant clinical/care professional experience, with the ability to lead, motivate and work collegiately
Desirable
- Experience of serious case reviews/case management reviews/significant case reviews, and individual management reviews/ individual agency reviews in relation to primary care / out of hours services.
- Experience as a named GP for Safeguarding Children

- Level 3 competences developing towards level 4 as set out in Safeguarding Children and Young People: roles and competences for health staff
- Experienced in/prepared to undertake training in how to undertake and assess critical incident reviews and root cause analysis

- Deep knowledge and understanding of the health challenges and priorities faced at borough level, as well as an understanding of local communities and the health and care landscape.
