Are you an enthusiastic and motivated aspiring Pharmacist with an interest in medication safety? Are you ready for that next step? If so, we have just the role for you at Gloucestershire ICB. We are looking for an ICB Medication Safety Pharmacist to join our team, taking a lead on improving medication safety, within Primary Care, for patients in Gloucestershire.

The successful applicant will be a qualified pharmacist (at least 2 years at band 7 or equivalent), with both clinical and operational experience, ideally with previous involvement in working on medication safety initiatives. They will also be able to demonstrate multidisciplinary and cross sector working and negotiation skills.

This post is based at Shire Hall, Westgate Street, Gloucester, GL1 2TG. The post holder will spend some of their time working from home and will be provided with the technical equipment to do so. This is a permanent, 0.4WTE post. Main duties of the job

Whilst the primary focus for the postholder will be within Primary Care, they will work closely with the Medication Safety Officers (MSO) from provider organisations across Gloucestershire to ensure joined up care for patients. They will deputise for the ICB MSO and attend the regional MSO meetings on behalf Gloucestershire ICB. The postholder will also work closely with the ICB Patient Safety Lead, to facilitate the implementation of the Primary Care Patient safety strategy locally, with a focus on medication safety.

Reporting directly and being professionally accountable to the ICB Chief Pharmacist for Primary Care, the ICB Medication Safety Pharmacist will be responsible for leading, managing and developing local initiatives to improve medication safety. Their focus will be on high-risk medicines and facilitating the reporting of and analysing data associated with, medication safety incidents and near misses to provide learning opportunities.

The role supports the Medication Safety agenda in Primary Care in Gloucestershire and works alongside other ICS partners on Medication Safety initiatives.

The postholder will be the lead pharmacist for Medicines Safety in Gloucestershire ICB and be responsible for improving medicines safety across Primary Care, by mitigating risks and initiating projects to improve medication safety.

To identify areas of medicines safety requiring improvement and participate in the training and education of clinical staff.

They will proactively engage with NHS staff working across all sectors including, clinicians, patient safety experts, Medication Safety Officers MSO, GP practice staff, patient safety teams, Quality teams, ICB Patient Safety Lead etc.

They will work effectively with a variety of external teams such as regional and national pharmacy and safety teams. They will lead on local implementation of projects identified by external bodies as and when required.

They will establish, maintain, and nurture appropriate key relationships and maintain networks internally and externally (including national networks).

They will need to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information and present this information to a wide range of stakeholders (sometimes in formal settings) as needed.

They will be committed to working and engaging constructively with internal and external stakeholders on a range of potentially sensitive issues relating to medication safety. This will include the identification of medication safety risks.

This role requires a close liaison with the ICBs communications and stakeholder team on public relations and marketing activities associated with medication safety.

The postholder will link with all appropriate NHS staff managers and clinicians to ensure alignment of medication safety issues and initiatives across all ICS partners.

They will lead on Medication Safety initiatives within Primary Care and apply the most appropriate change management or project management approach to these initiatives. They will ensure that initiatives are appropriately evaluated.
