An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our Mid & South Essex Integrated Care Board (MSE ICB) Quality Team within the nursing and quality directorate. This team puts people from the local community at the centre of what we do and strives to support high-quality healthcare services. The teams aim is to ensure providers are able to continually improve the quality of services by creating a positive learning culture and robust processes/procedures vital in improving quality provision.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, inquisitive, and innovative registered nurse with a strong recognition of the importance of teamwork, effective communication, and active listening skills. Ideal candidates will have some experience/knowledge of the acute/ community sector and have the ability to manage and prioritise their own workload. The successful individual will have a positive can-do attitude, be able to draw on past experience, and make use of their transferrable skills and training to ensure the ICB is aware of areas of risk and poor quality services. The team work closely with system partners, meaning effective communication skills are key to succeeding in this role. Knowledge of national frameworks such as the NHS people promise, Long-Term Plan and National Quality Board Framework would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

It is essential, people living across Mid and South Essex have healthcare services that are striving to be of good quality, consistent and high standard. You will support our drive to achieve this. You will:

  • Work autonomously under guidance, whilst developing & maintaining relationships with alliances, regulators, health providers, voluntary sector & local authority
  • Be required to undertake Quality Assurance Visits with providers relating to quality, patient safety & experience, as part of assurance processes
  • Have the ability to evaluate evidence using national guidance and best practice pathways and hold responsibility for decisions made during the course of duties, seeking guidance & escalating issues where appropriate
  • Want to develop within the role & be open to utilising & adapting new skills to ensure patient care remains a priority
  • Ensure action plans & escalations are acted upon, support providers with quality improvement measures, & provide timely responses to patient queries
  • Use honed influencing and leadership skills to support providers, have good computer & documentation skills
  • Attend system meetings, representing the voice of the patient & nursing & quality directorate
  • Evaluate evidence alongside national guidance & best practice pathways, chair local risk review meetings & ensure that action plans & escalations are acted upon as necessary

You may also be required to support other teams with more generic quality concerns, implementing the quality strategy.

ROLE PURPOSE / SUMMARY

The Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System will comprise the Integrated Care Board (ICB), which is the statutory body for the NHS, and the Integrated Care Partnership (ICP), which is a committee of the ICB, and brings together key health, care, community, and voluntary sector organisations across the area.

The ICS has a bold ambition to deliver improved outcomes for our 1.2m population through our four Alliances, and we are placing clinical and professional leadership and the voice of our residents at the heart of realizing this ambition.

The Quality Nurse Support Manager will be part of the nursing and quality team that is embedded within the overall nursing directorate with a focus on facilitating processes and assurance measures to improve patient quality, safety, and experience.

The Quality Team is responsible for ensuring that there are robust measures in place, that there are assurance processes and quality improvement plans built and followed to ensure that the patients within Mid and South Essex receive safe and effective care.

The post holder will be required to facilitate the implementation processes for quality, patient safety, and clinical effectiveness across Mid and South Essex ICS, which ensures that all mandated standards in relation to clinical governance are met and that any risk to the ICB is monitored and assurance is provided in relation to the commissioning responsibility of the organisation.

The post holder will support the team leads with the monitoring of commissioned services, ensuring that such services recognise and consider the quality, patient safety, and patient experience relevant to the service that is provided.

The postholder will also be responsible for ensuring the Quality Nurse Support Managers are aided and have the skills required to ensure that all supportive visits are documented and escalated as appropriate.

The post holder will work at an operational level across an Alliance and will be responsible for ensuring a robust quality monitoring agenda compromising of supportive visits to acute and community Providers. The post holder will support the quality agenda by undertaking quality assurance visits to a number of commissioned services.

The post holder will escalate any concerns identified either as part of risk review meetings or following assurance/ supportive visits as appropriate. The postholder will also be expected to share best practice with others.

The postholder will provide contributions to reports required to provide assurance to the ICB and/ wider audiences. The postholder will also be expected to ensure that the team workplan is kept up to date, with actions closed in a timely manner.

The postholder will develop key relationships within the alliances, wider nursing directorate, the commissioning teams, the Care Quality Commission, as well as with organisations that form part of the ICS.
