Job summary
This role is an exciting opportunity to lead the Primary Care Research and Development Team hosted in NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care Board (ICB). The Team are the second highest research-funded primary care R&D team in the country working closely with partner academic units in the University of Cambridge and other academic institutes
You will be able to demonstrate that you are an inspiring leader, and a strategic, innovative thinker with proven communication, negotiation and influencing skills. Ideally you will have specialist strategic and operational experience of research in a health care setting and have demonstrable experience of cross-system working, and the credibility to work collaboratively with leadership teams in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough system, including general practice, primary care networks, research networks, and academic organisations. You will need to be able to operate in a highly political and sensitive environment on the interface between the NHS, academia and the NIHR

Main duties of the job
The role holder will be the
lynch-pin in:

Leading the primary care R&D Team to ensure
an excellent environment for research and that stakeholders are fully supported
in developing research ideas and grants

Ensuring there is responsive support for the
regulatory set-up aspects of research across primary care, community care and
non-NHS settings

Fostering relationships and collaborations, and
supporting research capacity and capability
·
Managing research contracts, budgets, strategic
planning and reporting
·
Sustaining and developing the research culture,
and overcoming barriers
·
Supporting the ICB in meeting its statutory
duty for research

About us
NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough is an Integrated Care
Board (ICB) and the statutory NHS organisation responsible for planning and
delivering local health and care services to the population and communities of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough.
Working collaboratively with partner organisations, including
the VCSE sector, it oversees the commissioning, performance, financial
management and transformation of the local NHS, as part of Cambridgeshire &
Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS).

managing the R&D service budgets across workstreams, business and
financial planning, and developing R&D services
Interpreting and acting on national R&D policy and
strategy to inform locally implemented research policy for the Directorate
and ICB ensuring ICB research–related legal duties are met.
Managing relationships with the University of Cambridge
and Other University primary care and public health investigators, other
leading academics; National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR)
Clinical Research Network East of England and other stakeholders
Fulfil the ICB legal duties in respect of research
including input into any statutory planning and reporting in response to
research requirements for ICBs in the Health and Social Care Act; and
influencing the local research agenda to meet the needs of health and social
care
Day-to-day support for research collaborations and
creating a thriving environment for research. Support for academic and NHS
partners for the development of hosted National Institute of Health Research
grants, and ensuring as far as feasible, alignment with organisational
objectives
Responsibility for deploying Research Capability Funding
to sustain and increase research capacity and capability.
Responsibility for reporting on contracted R&D
activities
Providing specialist expertise and draft briefings on all
aspects of research and managing risks for the ICB
Influence within
the organisation and in regional and national networks to foster a supportive
culture for R&D
