Job summary
The Independent Senior Advocate role (ISA) has been introduced as a result of the Donna Ockenden Report on Maternity Services. A key recommendation is, to ensure that women and birthing peoples voices are heard within the maternity and neonatal care providers. Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System are proud to announce this exciting job opportunity, working collaboratively with women and families who may have experienced unexpected or adverse outcomes during their pregnancy journey.
Main duties of the job
The ISA role involves working with Trust providers (Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital and United Hospitals Birmingham) and wider partners to develop referral pathways, requiring the skills and capabilities to influence change. This person will be an experienced professional, with skills in listening and counselling, have extensive knowledge in advocacy, and be confident to manage diverse and changing caseloads, sometimes at short notice and be flexible.
Candidates need to be confident in working collaboratively as there will be close working with the Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) . You will build relationships with key stakeholders and senior clinicians within the Trust providers, Directors and Heads and of midwifery and senior obstetricians to build trust and develop open communication channels. Other essential stakeholders: Local Maternity and neonatal, Voices Partnerships, local Non-executive Directors, Patient Advice and Liaison Services and Safety Champions. A pivotal part of this role will be facilitating the progression of the Ockenden recommendations across the ICS ensuring actions are evidenced and translated into improvements for women and their families.
We are looking for a passionate individual who will be a trusted intermediary link between women and their families, clinicians, and the midwifery & neonatal services, aiming to break down barriers, providing opportunities to being listened to and be heard .
