Job summary
- Promote high quality, rational, evidence based, cost effective prescribing by registered primary care clinicians working within GP practices.
- To provide specialist prescribing support and advice to practice staff (including GPs, nurses) and other CCG staff as appropriate.
- To utilise, analyse and interpret complex data (including prescribing data) and informatics systems to formulate and deliver action plans.
- Work across the CCG on projects and initiatives as required; and promote awareness of medicines optimisation issues
- This role requires mobile working between GP practices and the CCG offices to deliver services. The post holder may be required to work at any establishment at any time throughout the duration of their contract. The role may also require working alone.
- There is a need for self-motivation and initiative in addition to good team working skills.

Main duties of the job
Birmingham and Solihull CCG is the largest Clinical Commissioning Group in England. Our organisation has 177 GP practices and commissions services for around 1.3 million people. There is an opportunity to join our Prescribing Support Pharmacist team.
We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic pharmacist who is committed to working as part of an integrated team supporting GP practices and prescribers in optimising the use of medicines in line with CCG, local and national priorities. This will mainly involve work based within the practices, but may also involve working centrally developing team work packages.
About us
The successful candidate will need to be an experienced pharmacist with a proven record of influencing prescribers, who is able to build relationships easily, encourage new and innovative ways of working and communicate effectively in all situations. Thorough clinical pharmacy knowledge is important together with the ability to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines. There is an expectation that the successful candidate will be able to travel across the geography of the CCG. Previous experience in primary care is desirable but not essential.
